Brookside Christian (Stockton CA) defeated Palma (Salinas CA) 56-54. Top Prospects in game one.
Geronimo De La Rosa 6’2 2021 combo guard, continues to play consistent basketball at a high level. He scored 26 points, knocking down 3’s, using impressive finishing moves around the basket. He made game winning free throws with seconds left for the win. Ronnie Ray 6’8 2020 is what I call a sleeper, 16 points . Ray is an unsigned senior who’s best days are ahead. He’s improved his mid-range shooting. He has good length, he runs the floor, and he brings an inside presence. With Franlys on the court, Ray can work to expand his perimeter game . Franlys Arias 6’6 2022 continues to improve. He’s an active rebounder, both he and Ronnie Ray need to improve their footwork, and get stronger. They provide good post play and presence in the paint for this team.
Palma had solid guard play from AJ Suniga 5’4 2020 point guard who never stops moving. He has command of the offense. Nate Jean Pierre a 5’9 2022 prospect. A prospect who needs to be more offensive minded when playing the other guard position. Pierre has a solid game his mid range shot, handles, and penetration are good,12 points. Joey finley 6’6 2022 post player was most impressive for his team. Finley a muscular athlete who gets down the floor in transition, and was effective around the basket, he had a couple of strong put backs for 2. He’s a good screener, and he’ll get of rebounds. 11 points.
ST. Francis (Mountain View CA) 62 defeated Central Catholic (Modesto CA) 52. Game two.
The Lancers knocked down twelves 3 point shots in this game. Leading the way, Trevor Leon 5’11 2020 guard drilled 6 on his own for 25 points. Kyle Rosecrans 6’0 2020 made three. 13 points. 6’8 wing/ stretch four, 2022 Vince Barringer. This is a good prospect to keep an eye on. He can put it on the floor to drive, and can shoot 3’s, 13 points. It’s safe to say the Lancers have some shooters on this team. A team to watch in the tough WCAL. They have good size, depth, and the coach substitutes freely.
Central Catholic 2020 point guard Dayton Magana 5’7 is a tough player. He led the comeback from 20 points down with high arching drives off the backboard that the bigs couldn’t get to, and nailed a buzzer beating 3 in the 3rd qtr to close the gap. He scored 21 points. Nic Sanic 6’6 2020. This prospect brings some physicality to his game. His drives from the baseline and the elbow proved to be an effective weapon for the big body prospect who can take up space in the middle and is active around the basket. 13 points.
