Now it is time to dive into our superlatives from the event. Today we have Team Rose: Breakout Performances!
Jamil Wilson (De La Salle – 2022)
Wilson put his name on the map against Riverside Brookfield. The 6’6” long and lanky 2022 forward presents projectability and athleticism around the hoop. Had several acrobatic finishes at the cup.
Christopher Smith (Rich East – 2020)
Smith burst on the radar with his performance at Team Rose. What we liked about him was his size and athleticism on the interior. He was extremely mobile on both ends of the floor swatting shots and rebounding out of his area.
Vaurice Patterson (Schaumburg – 2022)
Patterson is a 6’0” point guard that runs the show for Schaumburg and also has the ability to knock down three point shots.
Josiah Hammons (Curie – 2020)
Hammons went from not playing at all last year to making an impact early on this season. He is a spot up shooting threat that made multiple threes from the corners.
Jakobi Heady (Hillcrest – 2021)
Heady was the biggest breakout player from the event. We already had him ranked after what we saw this summer, but he put on a show in a 31 point performance drilling feathery jumpers from all over the floor with his size and length at 6’6”. Major stock riser!
Martell Webb (Westinghouse – 2022)
Webb is a broad shouldered 6’6” power forward that played with a lot of physicality for a sophomore on the interior both finishing offensively and rebounding.
John Digenan (St. Ignatius – 2021)
Digenan is a lanky wing that stood out on the defensive end with what he did for most of the game against Devin Davis. Offensively he is a skilled player with developmental and physical upside.
Roland McCoy (Kenwood – 2020)
McCoy lit it up from the perimeter drilling mid-range jumpers and threes with a feathery touch. His athleticism stands out at the two guard spot. Potential late bloomer candidate at the D2 level.
Darnell King (Kenwood – 2020)
King is a rangy and active power forward that has made a name for himself early this season with his play at a pair of marquee events. He has produced big numbers scoring and on the boards.
Kevin Murney (St. Rita – 2020)
Murney is a lengthy face up four man that can stretch the floor with his shooting. Also has some bounce to him which was shown on blocked shots.
Phillip Holmes (Simeon – 2021)
Holmes is a name we have known for a while because of his size inside, but he had never really produced much in high school or on travel team circuit until his game against St. Rita where he finished and rebounded at a nice clip.
Charles Doyle (Farragut – 2021)
Doyle dropped 25 points in the final game of the event drilling an array of threes. Plus shooter from the point guard spot.
