Paris Dawson (Corona Centennial, Guard, 2020) The Portland St. commit had a huge week, showing off his improving offensive game all over Vegas at the Tark Classic. When DJ Davis, Jaylen Clark, and Dennis Cash departed Corona Centennial, we knew there were gonna be some holes in the offense. Dawson has stepped up as the team’s leader and put the offensive load on his back. Dawson is consistently showing off his improved range and accuracy from deep. He shows the potential to be an outside threat as he is now hitting pull up 3s as long as catch and shoot 3s. He has also been doing a good job of penetrating the lane and getting to the paint. With Dawson leading the helms, Corona Centennial became the fourth program from California to win the Tark Classic top division. Portland State seems to have gotten a steal as Dawson broke out and won MOP honors.
Jared McCain (Corona Centennial, Wing, 2023) McCain is slowly etching his name as one of the top players for the 2023 class. McCain had a breakout performance against Philadelphia Neumann-Goretti in which he hit a career high eight 3 pointers. The 2023 wing is showing his ability to hit the ball consistently from deep. He also is showing athleticism as Corona Centennial runs back pick sets to get him alleyoops at the rim. The 6’3″ McCain loves getting to the rack and finishing. He is currently getting looks from several D-1s as a freshman.
Xavion Brown (Sheldon, Guard, 2020) The athletic 6’0 guard from Sacramento literally broke the hoop in Bishop Gorman’s second court off of a drop step dunk. Brown is an athletic slashing guard who always finds a way to get to the basket. He has bounce and is crafty with his moves to the rim. Brown also shows potential of being a lockdown defender. He reads passing lanes well and also does a good job moving laterally and staying in front of his man. Brown uses his jumping ability and athleticism to get rebounds and second chances. Ultimately he had a key offensive rebound which led to FTs for his team sealed the deal in a 3rd place win over Mater Dei.
Chance Stephens (Riverside Poly, Guard, 2022) The 6’2″ guard from the IE quickly showed out and exemplified his scoring ability at the Tark Classic. Stephens is a scoring guard who has the potential to catch fire at any moment. Stephens showed why he is nicknamed “Chance the Sniper” as he consistently found the bottom of the net from 3 pt range.
Luke Haupt (St Augustine, Wing, 2020) The 6’6″ versatile forward has D-1 talent. Haupt was a swiss army knife with his ability to cut up the defense and getting to the rim. He has sneaky athleticism and can finish well with either hand at the rim. Haupt is special as he can do a bit of everything. He can dribble the ball, also has good vision in finding the open man and making the right read. Haupt has range on his jumper and can consistently hit the 3 ball. On defense, he has good lateral movement and makes a good effort to stay in front of the ball. He also does a good job of challenging players who try to take him to the rim, very versatile defender.
Monty Bowser (Bishop O Dowd, Forward, 2020) Bowser is a 6’6″ 2 way athletic slasher who is starting to blossom. Bowser had a huge poster jam that exploded all over social media. His biggest strength at the moment is his defense. He’s long, athletic, can shuffle his feet, and has the athleticism to contest both straight up and help side. He shows tons of potential and has room to get even better. He’s signed to Cal and the Bears should be excited in trying to harness his potential.
