Max Allen (2022, Heritage Christian, Center) The transfer from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas made his impact felt right away. Allen is a 6’8″ 260 lb big man who is a paint beast. He has soft hands, is nimble, and has the footwork to go to work in the paint. Allen was a problem against Etiwanda who could not keep him off the glass. The sophomore saved the game with a stop on the final possession and threw a perfect outlet pass to Skyy Clark to seal Friday night’s game. There are few bigs in California who are going to be able to contain Allen in the paint.
Tyree Campbell (2020, Etiwanda, Wing) The unsigned senior exploded on day 1 of the tournament and stood out. Campbell is a versatile wing who has the skill and ability to contribute in many ways. On this loaded Etiwanda roster, he primarily plays the 4 and the wing positions where his IQ stands out. Campbell uses his athleticism and smarts to cut to the basket at the perfect moments and does a great job finishing at the rim. He also has a consistent jumper which extends out to the 3 pt line.
Kyle Frelow (2021, Heritage Christian, Wing) The junior wing is a true slasher. Frelow hits the boards and does a great job of following his teammates’ missed shots. On day 1, Frelow showcased athleticism with a poster dunk that was exploding all over social media. He has the build and frame with the potential to put on more muscle and will be a tough cover at the rim.
Brady Dunlap (2023, Hart, Guard) The freshman from North Carolina is already making strides with his performances early on. Brady is the son of Cal State Northridge assistant men’s basketball coach Jeff Dunlap, had a team high 15 points on day 1 against St. Bernards. On a team that already has other deadeye shooters in the Penberthy brothers, Dunlap is another player who can stretch the floor. He showcased his long range marksmanship with three 3pters on day 1. Dunlap is a freshman to keep an eye on. Fun fact, Dunlap is also the QB of the freshman football team.
Adrian McIntyre (2020, Saugus, Guard) The 6’2 senior is carrying a heavy heart this season after the shooting tragedy that occurred at his school a month earlier. He plays every game with shoes that honor the victims of the tragedy. On day 2, he put up 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists, one day after 39 point, 10 rebound effort. McIntyre is a pure scorer who can light up the net at any given moment. With his day 1 performance at Westchester High School, McIntyre broke the all time scoring record for the Saugus Centurions. The scoring guard is an unsigned senior and colleges who need some scoring should look his way.
Nick Bowden (2020, St. Bernard’s, Guard) The unsigned senior had a huge week in leading his team to the championship at the Trevor Ariza Tip Off Classic. Most impressively, Bowden’s leadership was on display. He was very vocal all week long in getting his teammates to the right spots and pumping them up. While he’s known as a bomber, Bowden also is creative in the lane. When he is slashing, Bowden does an excellent job of using his body to bump his man to finish at the basket. Nick also seems to have improved his intensity on the defensive end. Bowden finished with MVP honors of the tournament
