The Sharks used a 30-point second quarter to hold off the Hurricanes to move to 4-0 on the young season. The Hurricanes fought back after the break, winning the final two quarters by a combined score of 28-27. The buzz in this one was worth the price of admission with a multitude of players from both teams with big time college futures.
Lets break down some of the standouts:
1) Roger McFarlane – University School: This was my second time viewing McFarlane (2020) this season and he did not disappoint once again. The senior guard finished with a game high 22 points, 16 of which came in the first half. McFarlane scored in a variety of ways: Around the rim, wing jumpers, put backs off missed shots, and deep 3-pointers. McFarlane seems to be the lead dog for U-School and I would expect more offers to come his way as his play has been stellar early on.
2) Jermaine Dyges – Northeast: Offensively, Dyges (2020) finished with ten points, including a pair of 3-pointers for the Hurricanes. However, I want to give Dyges credit for the work he did defensively against a U-School team with potent offensive talent. The senior did a fantastic job guarding (2021) guard Jaden Grant in the half court. Dyges moved his feet well and forced U-School into a couple turnovers in the first half.
3) Taylor Hendricks – University School: Hendricks (2022) once again displayed his athletic ability for the Sharks with three spectacular dunks. In one instance, Grant hit Hendricks with a pass down the center of the lane before the sophomore forward flushed it down for two of his 15 points on the night. The six-foot-eight forward has offers from the big three in Florida (UF, FSU, UM) with plenty more to choose from.
4) Wesley Cardet – Northeast: Currently, we have Cardet (2021) slotted 6th overall in our Florida ranking system. Certainly, the shooting guard did plenty to justify that ranking in this one going against the likes of Jett Howard and Jace Howard. Cardet finished with 18 points and looked strong attacking the basket. The six-foot-five junior has a strong handle finishing around the rim and can pop out from deep for a three when he needs too. Cardet has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Southern Cal, Florida, Iowa State, among others.
5) Jameon “J.J.” Harris – Northeast: I have heard a lot about Cardet (for good reason) but this was my first look at Harris (2021) for the Hurricanes. The junior, a transfer from West Oaks in Orlando, scored 17 points including a long 3-pointer to close out the first half for the Hurricanes. After the shot, Harris was fired up heading back to the Hurricanes bench after a productive first 16 minutes. Harris looked strong early offensively, scoring eight of his points to help Northeast to an early lead in the first quarter. The six-foot-four guard picked up an offer from James Madison back in September and should see more looks coming his way in the future. Along with Cardet, the Hurricanes have a nice 1-2 punch this year in the back court.
