Here are some standout performances from first-round games that took place on December 5th.
Clay Frost and Ely Doble (Gretna) – Omaha Burke pulled the first of two upsets on the evening in a low scoring affair against Gretna. While the Dragons didn’t come out victorious, a pair of Morningside College commits in Senior Guard Clay Frost, and Senior Wing Ely Doble were the most efficient players on the court, and they also scored all but one of the Dragons 38 points in their ten-point loss to the Bulldogs. Frost finished 7-11 from the field, including four makes from beyond the arch. Doble did the majority of his work inside the paint. It was a tough beginning to the new campaign, but these senior leaders will look to keep Gretna very much in the hunt in Class A.
Jaren Marshall (Omaha Burke)- On the other side, 2021 Guard Jaren Marshall was the high man for Omaha Burke. Marshall will lead the Bulldogs backcourt this year, and on top of his 12 points, he also dished out five assists. Marshall is a solid floor general for a young Bulldog team, who had a solid summer campaign playing Iowa Barnstormers. Keep an eye on Marshall to be a possible breakout prospect in the 2021 class.
Max Polk (Omaha Central)- In his first game back from an offseason injury, Polk picked up right where he left off at the end of last season. On a 5-12 shooting night that also included going 6-6 at the free-throw line, Polk went back to his bread and butter, which is his midrange game and getting to the rim. Polk also added six assists to his stat sheet. Polk is one of the top uncommitted seniors in the state and will usually run the show for an Omaha Central team with lots of guard depth.
Wal Chuol (Omaha North)- Another one of the top uncommitted seniors in the state had himself a game to kick off his senior campaign and to the lead the Vikings to a 70-66 road win against Omaha Bryan. Chuol was an efficient 10-15 from the field which included 3-6 from three-point range and 6-7 from the foul line. Chuol also added 9 boards to cap off a very impressive opening night performance.
