The junior duos from Millard North and Mount Michael Benedictine looked particularly ready for the season to start.
Hunter Sallis Hunter Sallis 6'4" | CG Millard North | 2021 State #8 Nation NE – 6’4 Guard – Millard North
Sallis is an effortless scorer and athlete that stands out even on a Millard North team that is stacked with talent. His skill as a ball handler gets to him to his spots at will and his length allows him to shoot over the top of defenders. The junior guard can score from all three levels and creates opportunities for himself and others. Sallis showed off his athleticism and kept the fans happy throughout his set of games with a pair of fast break dunks and a put back off the backboard from a teammate.
Tyler Sandoval Tyler Sandoval 6'8" | PF Millard North | 2021 State NE – 6’8 Center – Millard North
Sandoval is a well-rounded forward with a talent for corralling offensive and defensive rebounds. The solid 6’8 junior uses his size on the defensive end to block and change shots. With both of his opponents today unable to match his size, Tyler was stretched out and forced to guard on the wing most of the day. He did a good job of moving his feet on the perimeter and using his length to get into position to contest shots. Sandoval is a legitimate threat from 3-point range and can open up the floor for others with his spacing. Playing alongside Hunter Sallis Hunter Sallis 6'4" | CG Millard North | 2021 State #8 Nation NE , Max Murrell Max Murrell 6'9" | PF Millard North | 2020 State #80 Nation NE and the rest of the talented Millard North roster, Sandoval will find himself with plenty of open opportunities this season, which he looks ready to take advantage of.
Brad Bennett Brad Bennett 6'1" | CG Elkhorn Mount Michael | 2021 State NE – 6’2 Guard – Mount Michael Benedictine
Bennett is a lights out shooter with deep range. Every time the ball leaves his fingers you think it is going through the hoop. Part of the reason for this is because Bennett doesn’t take bad shots despite his deadeye ability. He plays with patience, controls the offense, and works to get the best shot each possession. While ideally you would want Brad working off the ball and spotting up to get shots for himself, he has the skill and vision to be a primary ball handler. After getting it going early from 3 against Omaha Benson, Bennett was able to attack a couple hard closeouts and finish at the rim, showing he is more than a shooter.
Kaleb Brink Kaleb Brink 6'4" | PF Elkhorn Mount Michael | 2021 State NE – 6’4 Forward – Mount Michael Benedictine
Brink makes it very difficult on opposing defenses with his skill and patience in the post. He has a great understanding for how to be successful with his back to the basket and works to get deep positioning. Brink doesn’t rush when the ball is entered to him, but he doesn’t waste moves or dribbles either. Kaleb takes what the defense gives him and uses his great footwork to finish with either hand at the rim. The junior forward uses his length to contest shots and rebound at a high rate. In Kaleb’s final pre-season games, I was impressed with his feel for offensive spacing. Brink always seemed to be in the right place for a dump off that he can easily finish.
