Hosted by recruiting legend Gerry Freitas this event brings together some of the best programs from Southern California to face off against some of the best programs from Las Vegas. There will be plenty of star power on display, but some lesser-known players will also get an opportunity to make a name for themselves. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top sleepers participating in the event.
Dominque Ford 6’2 SG Desert Oasis (#8PHN 2020) – Ford is a unique player to have on the sleeper list. In Las Vegas, he is a well-known bucket getter. This event provides the perfect opportunity for him to introduce himself to the rest of the West Coast. Ford is a dynamic slasher that can get all the way to the rim, or create a mid-range shot for himself.
Braden Lamar 6’5 SG Bishop Gorman (#10PHN 2020) – Lamar plays for powerhouse Bishop Gorman, so many times his contributions go unnoticed. He is an underrated athlete, that also posses a lethal jumper. His offensive versatility will be key for the Gales, as I anticipate him spending time on the block as well as using his jumper to spacing the floor.
Mason Machado 6’6 PF Corona Centennial – Machado is a fluid stretch 4 that can moves seamlessly between the perimeter and the post. High energy player that is a willing rim protector, and loves to start fast breaks with crisp accurate outlet passes. Machado, his signed on to play for Northwest Nazarene next season.
Brantley Stevenson 6’3 SG Etiwanda – Stevenson is a rangy combo guard with the ability to attack defenders off the bounce. Expect him to finish with a variety of shots around the rim including runners, off-balance floaters and even mid-range jumpers.
Ignacio Camacho 6’8 SF Ribet Academy – The Guatemalan import is a versatile wing that excels at finishing in transition. Camacho posses a strong athletic frame, that allows him to finish through contact.
Ian McCloskey 6’3 PG San Gabriel – McCloskey is an absolute sniper, who will be one of the top shooters participating in the event. He possesses elite shot prep, hands ready and feet set. There is no wasted motion in McCloskey’s shot, and he only needs a split second to get it off.
Kendrick Gilbert 6’5 SF Durango (#24PHN 2020) – Gilbert is the heart and soul of Durango. The ultimate glue guy, expect Gilbert to defend the opposing teams best player, be one of the leading rebounders and earn extra possessions for the Trailblazers.
