Prep Hoops always likes to stay ahead of the game in watching kids. The 1st Annual Schlotzsky’s Carolina Tip Off took place this week in the Midlands. Lets take a look at some of the 2023 Top Performers we were able to watch on the last day of the event.
Kanye Nelson

This was the first time watching Nelson play here today. Nelson starts for the Lancers after attending Saluda Trail Middle School last year. Nelson really showed a nice pull-up jumper in transition and great elevation on his shot. Nelson was very comfortable and poised on the floor with his play. Nelson got the ball into the gaps at times and connected on a few three pointers.

King played on the varsity last season for the Swamp Cats. King really finished well around the basket today especially with his left hand. King sacrificed his body while taking a few charges here today. King must improve on his perimeter skills but shows to have a good nose for the ball. King

Merel Burgess

Burgess will be a good future piece for the Bruins. Burgess a left-handed forward can step-out and knock down shots or play with his back to the basket in the paint. Burgess has a nice touch on the foul line. Burgess we first saw this summer playing in the NCAA Evaluation Camp in Columbia.

Huggins finished with 10 points today in a loss to JL Mann HS. Huggins has good feet and a thicker frame. Huggins was able to set screens and showed good footwork. Huggins will have to step up this season for the Red Foxes for a viable scoring option to help

Oree a combo guard felt very comfortable with the ball in his hands. Oree will be a guard to watch down the road for the Raiders. Oree showed to have good confidence and poise while on the floor tonight.
