Andrew Anderson, Guard, Rocori (2020)
Anderson was the biggest physical presence for the Spartans last night. Seeing him in warmups, I knew he would be a massive threat on defense and he was for sure. Anderson didn’t score all that much, but was extremely physical on the boards and played excellent lockdown defense with a chip on his shoulder.
Brady Josewski, Guard, Big Lake (2020)
As a deep threat, Josewski was dominant. If Big Lake was ever in a pinch for a big shot or needed a key rebound, Josewki was providing it. His 9 points helped the cause for the Hornets to get their first win of the year against the football dominant Rocori Spartans.
Tucker Haakonson, Guard, Rocori (2021)
The top scorer for the Spartans was Tucker Haakonson. Not the biggest player on the court, but put together a nice shooting performance against Big Lake. Rocori played a team game last night and didn’t have one player in double digits aside from Haakonson who was the closest with 9 points.
Wyatt Windhorst, Forward, Big Lake (2021)
Windhorst gets my board collector award from last night. Windhorst was getting every rebound that came near him and his rebound total almost matched his points total on the night. His physicality down low is something to watch from Big Lake this season.
Alec Morehead, Guard, Big Lake (2020)
Morehead was a player off my radar to start last night but was on it by the end of the night. Morehead’s 13 point performance came from all over. drives to the bucket, 3 pointers, paint points, and much more. Morehead gets my “Rise Up” award in this one.
Game MVP: Jack Iverson, Forward, Big Lake (2021)
The paint was owned by Iverson’s efforts last night. Anytime the ball was in his hands, Big Lake was bound to score. His 17 point outing and his in the paint play, gets my game MVP award. This junior is something to watch in the Mississippi 8 this year.
Shoutout
Congratulations to new Big Lake head coach Mario Reese who got his first win in as their boy’s basketball coach. Reese was most recently the head coach of the girl’s basketball program at Brooklyn Center.
