Recruiting Report: Elijah Roye (2020)
Elijah Roye, a class of 2020 forward from Carmel School, was one of the biggest standouts at this year’s Sleepy Thompson Tournament. The unsigned senior is hearing from a variety of scholarship level programs and should continue to do so moving forward. Roye discussed his recruitment, overall game, and goals during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: What is the most improved part of your overall game in recent months?
ER: “Definitely going up with both hands. Just playing a lot more physical, a lot more assertive this year.”
PH: What, if anything, do you think is underrated about your game?
ER: “I would say probably my rebounding. People see that I’m tall, but there’s a lot of times where I’ll chase after the ball and people don’t expect me to get there as fast as I do.”
PH: What do you think you need to work on?
ER: “My ball-handling, shooting off the dribble, catch and shoot off threes.”
PH: You’re a captain on the team. What does that mean to you as far as leading your teammates?
ER: “I kind of show by example. Getting out on the court and playing hard, be vocal. I try to pick up our players. Even If I’m on the bench, I don’t put my head down. I keep my head held high and clap for my teammates.”
PH: Where does your recruitment currently stand?
ER: “I’m talking to a lot of D2s and some D1s. I talked with VMI and Longwood. I’m also considering some walk-on spots.”
PH: What are your goals?
ER: “Get to college at the highest level I can, play well, get a degree and make my family proud.”
