1. JD Davison, 6’3 PG, Calhoun: He averaged an incredible 50.5 points per game over his last 3 contest. The viral internet sensation is much more than just a dunk fest. He is a highly skilled point guard with vision and pace unlike anyone else in any class in the state. Currently ranked in the top 25 of most national publications a four-star athlete will soon gain that 5th star if he continues to put up the type of numbers he is putting up so far this season. When you watch him play you can tell each and every time out the game continues to slow down for him and he is seeing plays 3 and 4 times quicker than anyone else on the court. He understands that all he needs is one dribble and two steps and he can take flight and finish over the top of any defenders. Look for his stock to rise as he has the potential to be a McDonald’s All-American in two years.
2. GaQuincy McKinstry, 6’1 CG, Pinson Valley: Rarely do you see a 2-sport athlete that is at the top of his game in both sports respectively. That is the case with “Kool-Aid.” He is a legit prospect in both football and basketball at the major college level. His insane motor and aggressiveness on the basketball court separate him from most on the hardwood. He is insanely athletic, but don’t be fooled he is highly skilled. His first step is so quick it is tough for any defender to stay in front of him. That superior athletic ability allows him to be able to raise up and shoot over defenders or finish over them at the rim. He still hasn’t made a decision on which sport he will play in college or if he will play both, but whatever he decides trust he will succeed at it.
3. Brody Peebles, 6’2 CG, Hartselle: The recent Liberty University commit is averaging 27.4 ppg on 57% shooting from the field and 44% from behind the arch so far in this young season. His ability to break down defenders off the dribble and score with the float game or pull up and knock down mid-range shots makes a nightmare to guard. He has deep 3 point range off the catch as well as off the bounce. He has good vision and has and makes good decisions in transition. Outside of being able to score the basketball at a high rate some of his best attributes are his motor and basketball IQ. He is always playing hard which makes it seem as if he is always around the ball. Look for him to continue to drop 30 pieces throughout this season.
4. Cameron Crawford, 6’4 SG, Spain Park: This long and smooth SG is a swiss army knife out on the floor. With the ability to defend the 1-4 position makes him a very interesting prospect. Offensively as he projects to the next level he can be considered as a combo guard with his ability to handle the basketball. He shoots it well from outside and with range from well beyond the 3-point line. He is also very athletic and can play above the rim. He is very fluid in the open court and at only 16 years old the upside for this junior is off the charts.
5. Joshua “Greedy” Williams, 6’3 CG, Sidney Lanier: This crafty lefty has exploded on to the scene after a successful run this past spring and summer on the Nike EYBL circuit with the Alabama Fusion E16. After a 3 inch and about 40-pound growth spurt over the same timeframe he has become a legit Division 1 prospect. His ability to break defenders down off the dribble and finish at the rim with either hand makes him impossible to stay in front of. With 117 points, 25 assists, and only 3 turnovers (as the Poets primary ball-handler) over his last 4 games this is shaping up as his breakout season. He is a legit 3 level scorer as he can get buckets from anywhere on the court. His increased build has also made him a much-improved on-ball defender.
