1. Colby Jones, 6’5 SG, Mountain Brook: The Xavier signee is off to a great senior campaign for the reigning back-to-back-to-back 7A state champion Spartans. Jones looks like he is following in the footsteps of now LSU standout Trendon Watford in leading what is now his team back to Birmingham for the Super 7 Final Four. His ability to do so many things on the court makes him a 5-tool player (a baseball reference). In hoops, a 5-tool player is someone that can dribble, pass, shoot, defend, and communicate and Jones excels in all 5 areas. We look forward to seeing him excel on and off the court for the remainder of this season. Huge match-up on Saturday Dec.14th in Moutain Brook vs. #11 ranked junior Joshua Williams Joshua Williams 6'2" | SG Helena | 2024 State AL of Sidney Lanier.
2. Antwan Burnett, 6’5 SG, Sidney Lanier: Though he has yet to play in a game so far this season due to transferring to a prep school in Florida and returning to Lanier to complete his senior year. The manchild is itching to get back on the court with his teammates and help lead them to the 6A Super 7 Final Four. If at all possible he hopes to make his season debut vs. Mountain Brook on Saturday which will be one of the most intriguing match-ups of the season pitting him vs. Colby Jones. If not look to see him on the court in Huntsville, Alabama for the HSV City Classic December 26th-28th. He has yet to decide on college but is garnering interest from South Alabama, UAB, Murray State, and Iowa State just to name a few.
3. Giancarlo Valdez, 6’3 CG, Decatur Heritage: The Stetson signee moved up ranking boards after a very good spring and summer running with ProOne Select on the Under Armor circuit. The Hatters are getting a versatile guard who can play both the point and shooting guard positions. He will give them a boost also on the defensive end as he is able to guard multiple positions on the perimeter. The deceptive athlete seems unassuming when you see him, but once the ball is tossed you see the smoother operator come out and show why is ranked so high in this edition of the 2020 rankings.
4. Jadan Coleman, 6’4 SG, Bob Jones: The guy can legit fill it up. He has a quick release and has in the gym range. He has vastly improved his ability to play one-on-one basketball off the dribble. He needs to continue to pick up his defensive intensity and willingness to lock-up whoever is in front of him. The Tulane signee has played in a lot of high-level games in his young career and will take that experience to the next level. His improved ball-handling ability will make him a more valuable asset on the next level if he can be a facilitator along with that pure jump shot. He is a sneaky athlete that is willing to finish at the rim if you attempt to run him off the 3-point line.
5. Tommy Murr, 6’1 CG, Lindsey Lane: The nations (you heard me right) the “nations” leading scorer is averaging a whopping 48 points per game so far this season. He can score the basketball from anywhere on the court at any time. He can shoot it from deep, he can put it on the floor and finish at the rim, he has a very nice pull-up mid-range game, and is able to find teammates when the defense collapses. The Lipscomb signee had a meager (by his standards) 47 points over the weekend vs. arguably the number 1 player in any class JD Davison who himself had 48 points. Look for him to continue to put up big numbers throughout the season and help Lipscomb early in his freshman year.
