Prospect Spotlight: Mark Aiken (2021)
Mark Aiken, a class of 2021 guard from Thurgood Marshall, has started his junior campaign strongly. The Warriors are 6-4 so far this season and have played a respectable schedule with losses coming against Rock Creek Christian, St. Albans, Archbishop Carroll, and Fairmont Heights respectively. A skilled guard who can score well from all three levels, Aiken knows that in most games his team will be undersized so they have to outwork their opponents.
“Our mindset heading into most games is to be scrappy,” Aiken told Prep Hoops. “Get stops and compete so we can stay in the game.”
One of Aiken’s main roles at TMA is obviously to score the ball. He is known as a shooter, but can also get downhill and finish in traffic. Aiken is also a competent facilitator of the ball who recognizes where the open man is once the help arrives. Right now, he is continuously working on his defense to be more scrappy and embrace the identity of his team.
What are his goals?
“My goal is to win the championship for the charter league. Last year we lost in the semifinals. We just really want to win the public charter championship and that would be a good goal for Thurgood Marshall.”
Mark Aiken is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-100 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2021 class, click here.
