Prospect Spotlight: James Gross Jr. (2021)
Rock Creek Christian is still unbeaten after 4 games this season, and James Gross Jr. has been an integral factor in his team’s fast start. The versatile wing prospect has been a standout defensively while playing efficiently on the offensive end. In two games at the More Than Basketball Tip-Off, Gross averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 60% from the field and 78% from the foul line.
“My handle and decision making are the most improved parts of my game,” Gross told Prep Hoops during a recent interview. “My jump shot is still getting there, but I’m just trying to work on playing more freely with the ball.”
Gross understands that to excel at the next level, teams will have to respect his perimeter jumper. He has shot the ball confidently from the charity stripe, which indicates that his jumper has the potential to improve. One thing that might be considered underrated about Gross’ overall game could be his passing.
“I feel like I can a lot of people open shots. I move the ball a lot,” he stated. “I’m unselfish even though I should be more selfish sometimes. Ever since I was young I’ve been good at passing.”
Howard, George Washington, George Mason, Stony Brook, and Bryant are among the schools who are currently expressing interest in Gross. Expect more schools to get involved as the season progresses.
What are his goals?
“I just want to win the championship and put us on the map more. Show that we’re a threat out here.”
