Continue ReadingMt. Carmel’s season thus far has been all about streaks. They started the season with four-straight wins followed by three-straight losses and now, look to extend their current two-game win streak to three as they host Archbishop Spalding tonight. There have been a few players along the way that have been consistent producers. 2020 guard Billy Minor is among that group.
Minor is a 6-foot-2 lefty who can space the floor with his ability to shoot from three. For the Cougars, his presence is extremely valuable considering their two main ball handlers are most effective when driving lanes are presented on the floor. With Minor standing on the wing, it almost eliminates one defender entirely because of their limited help.
“We really don’t have defined roles,” Minor continued, “Coach really just needs us to do everything on the court. It makes us more versatile as a team and harder to guard. I’m willing to do whatever it is to help my team win.”
Along with his shooting, Minor supplies experience to a team that is made up of young players or players who had transferred in this past summer. Having that presence in a league such as the MIAA can come in handy especially when the postseason starts to peek its head.
Minor doesn’t try to do too much out of his skill set when he gets the ball. He has 2022 guards in Deon Perry and Tobi Nnadozie, both of which can consistently get into the lane and force the defense to collapse. That’s where Minor steps in with his catch-and-shoot three’s that force the defense to remain honest.
Some aspects of improvement that Minor is focusing on his getting quicker overall and becoming a more effective defender. Minor tells Prep Hoops that he has a 3.7 GPA and no schools at this time are reaching out to him consistently. If he continues to play at this level and efficiency, that should change sooner rather than later.
