Prospect Spotlight: Adam Angwafo (2022)
Adam Angwafo, a class of 2022 forward from Severn School, is one of the better long-term prospects you will find in the local sophomore class. At 6-foot-6, 200 pounds, Angwafo has ideal physical tools, good defensive potential, and a sneaky skill set.
“I am more of a face-up 4,” Angwafo told Prep Hoops when asked to describe his overall game. “In the post, I like to get the ball, face-up rip and go.”
In his current role, Angwafo has to be a forceful paint presence. That includes being active defensively, recording deflections, rebounding in or out of his area, protecting the rim, establishing low post position early and often, and finishing around the rim. One thing that Angwafo needs to work on is getting to the basket more. As his frame fills out he will develop the strength to power through defenders more easily.
“I’d say my jump shot is underrated,” he stated. “I can shoot the three, but I like the mid-range. I’ve been working on my mid-range pull-up a lot.”
Anthony Davis is a player that Angwafo says he models his game after. He likes the versatility that Davis has developed on the offensive end which includes his ability to stretch the floor.
What are Angwafo’s goals?
“Definitely to make it to the championship of the MIAA B Conference. Last year we lost to St. Paul’s in the semifinals. If we want that to happen, we have to work harder in practice, hit the weight room harder and have a serious mindset.”
Adam Angwafo is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-50 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2022 class, click here.
