Over 6,000 fans were in attendance to watch Prodigy Prep (FL) led by point guard Julian Newman take on Marshall County (KY) led by nationally ranked (#21 ESPN 60) point guard Zion Harmon. In addition to the sold out crowd, Division 1 Coaches such as Coach Pearl, Auburn University Head Coach, Coach Mack, Louisville Head Coach, and others were there to see this match up.
Thousands were in attendance to see the Newman and Harmon match up but Prodigy Prep’s C/O 2021 6’4 Shooting Guard Emmanuel Maldonado stole the show!
Marshall County opened the game with a three (3) followed by four (4) points from Prodigy Prep to take the lead, one they would hold throughout the entirety of the game. Marshall County’s defensive effort held Prodigy Prep’s Newman scoreless in the 1st half. This effort was no match for Maldonado.
Maldonado was an unstoppable force for Prodigy Prep. He used his elite ball handling skills and his excellent feel for the game to create for his team. Maldonado proved to be a pure shooter, connecting on ten (10) threes breaking a Hoopfest record. Maldonado ended the game with 34 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 assists. He was named the game’s MVP.
Newman added 13 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. Marshall County’s Zion Harmon ended the game with 33 points and Tyler Stokes added 16 points. Prodigy Prep defeated Marshall County 84-76.
On the following day Prodigy Prep took on Tennessee Prep and added another win to their record winning 80-76. Maldonado had another outstanding performance ending the game with 27 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. He was named MVP of this game as well.
This weekend, Maldonado proved to be a high level guard with an impressive IQ. He is a pure shooter with sharp handles. He turned a lot of heads at this event and it is only the beginning for the Junior Guard.
