Division 1
STATE CHAMPIONS
Ypsilanti Lincoln: There’s too many stars and they’re too deep to overcome. They have an All-Star roster to go along with Emoni Bates. Once the new pieces get used to each other, watch out.
MVP: Emoni Bates (2022, G/F)
2ND PICK
Orchard Lake St. Mary’s: They may have the roster most capable of competing with Ypsilanti-Lincoln. They have hard-nosed stars and depth in the backcourt.
MVP: Lorne Bowman (2020, G)
DON’T FORGET ABOUT
I had to go with 4 in Division 1. I think it’s that wide open of a chase.
Ann Arbor Huron: I’ve been very high on Huron since the junior class arrived in high school. This could be the year they put it all together.
MVP: Julian Lewis (2021, G/F)
Oxford: Just remember what Trey Townsend did last year in the playoffs. He’s a year older and better.
MVP: Trey Townsend (2020, G)
River Rouge: With Legend Geeter leading the way, all things are possible. They upset Ypsilanti-Lincoln last night.
MVP: Legend Geeter (2021, F)
Saginaw: With a backcourt like theirs, why COULDN’T they win it all? Sir’Real Smith and Freddie McIntosh are the real deal.
MVP: Sir’Real Smith (2020, G)
Division 2
STATE CHAMPIONS
Benton Harbor: Scooby Johnson leads a fast and athletic squad to the state title. They have a plethora of talent on the perimeter and on the wings, plus one of the best leaders in Michigan in Johnson.
MVP: Carlos Johnson (2020, SF)
2ND PICK
Detroit Frederick Douglass: Pierre Brooks Jr. Is surrounded with rising talent. They are a legitimate threat to hold the trophy at the Breslin Center.
MVP: Pierre Brooks Jr. (2021, G/F)
DON’T FORGET ABOUT
Grand Rapids Catholic Central: Like Benton Harbor and Detroit Frederick Douglass, they have college talent up and down the roster. It will be no shock if they’re the last ones standing.
MVP: Mykel Bingham (2020, F)
Division 3
STATE CHAMPIONS
Flint Beecher: Jalen Terry and Earnest Sanders lead Flint Beecher back to a state title. Having playmakers like them and Keyon Menifield makes Beecher the favorite.
MVP: Jalen Terry (2020, G)
2ND PICK
Hanover Horton: This squad is WAY underrated. I might even consider Hanover Horton vs. Flint Beecher a “pick-em”. They have size, versatility, experience, and up and coming prospects.
MVP: Luc Laketa (2020, G/F)
DON’T FORGET ABOUT
Iron Mountain: They were right there last year and might be even better this year.
MVP: Foster Wonders (2021, SF)
Division 4
STATE CHAMPIONS
Southfield Christian: This seems like a solid pick. Their skill and depth, especially in the backcourt, is almost impossible to overcome.
MVP: Daijon Humphrey (2020, G)
2ND PICK
Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian: They lost some key talent from last year, but I’m willing to put my trust in Brady Titus.
MVP: Brady Titus (2022, G)
SLEEPER
Pellston: They made a deep run last year with a grade A backcourt. Star senior guard Blake Cassidy can keep them in any game.
MVP: Blake Cassidy (2020, G)
