It would be almost criminal for me not to put Hayden Doyle on this list. The guard had a performance on Friday night that most prospects can only dream of. Doyle put up a ridiculous 42 points in a 68-55 win. He made 13 field goals and was 14-17 from the foul stripe. Doyle’s awe-inspiring 42 point game makes him the front runner for this week’s player of the week honor.
Kobe Johnson’s week got off to a bit of a rocky start. On Tuesday, Johnson and Nicolet got upset by Whitefish Bay. The point guard scored 17 points, but it wasn’t enough to get the win. Johnson and Nicolet had a strong bounce-back performance against Hartford on Friday night. Johnson notched his first career triple-double, scoring 12 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists in the winning effort.
I have a strong suspicion that Patrick Balwin Jr. is going to be a candidate for player of the week a lot. In his first two games as a junior, Baldwin scored 53 points and simply could not be guarded. Opposing teams this year are going to have a really tough time slowing down this five-star prospect. Baldwin also added 15 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in Sussex Hamilton’s win over Milwaukee Bay View on Saturday.
It seems like Alex Antetokoumnpo is coming into his own — and that is a very scary thought. The 6-foot-7 forward has a lot of potential that still remains untapped, but he seems to be putting it all together. In two games this week, Antetokounmpo averaged 22 points, which included a 29 point game in his first matchup of the season.
Honorable Mentions:
Brandin Podziemski had a very productive week for SJNMA. In his first game of the week, the SG scored 17 points for the Lancers in a huge win over Brookfield Academy. Later in the week, Podziemski had a solid 23 point outing in a loss to Milwaukee Lutheran.
Washington had two great performances to begin his senior season. He scored 16 points in his first game, then followed that up with a 17 point six rebound performance.
Putting up 33 points could become routine for JaKobe Thompson this season. The Racine Case lead guard is a scoring machine who can’t be stopped on the offensive end of the court.
Thompson started his season by tallying 33 points for Case in a victory over Burlington.
