This event will be packed with college level players, especially division l, here we take a look at the forwards to watch.
Elhadji Thiam (2021) | 6-7 PF | Pickerington Central
Thiam has grown an inch since last season, now a better fitted rebounder as he grows into his length. Avid shot blocker that has a long reach and can get off his feet well to do so. Thiam uses a soft touch around the rim, often gets his points off put-backs. Will face an athletic Butchel team that likes to push the pace at times, which Thiam is athletic enough to get up and down the court for.
Tyrese Hughey (2021) | 6-7 PF | Thomas Worthington
Hughey may have had the best summer out of any Central Ohio prospect as his recruitment really picked up. Hughey is a furious rebounder and shot blocker that really affects the game. Thomas will need every bit of that against a Columbus South team that likes to do their damage in the paint. The junior without a doubt will be one of the best bigs on display Saturday.
Sam Barton (2020) | 6-5 PF | Columbus South
Barton is a bit undersized sometimes and will be against Thomas Worthington. But, he has a high motor that doesn’t stop working in the paint that allows him to make plays, grab extra possessions and much more. The senior can stretch the floor a bit, is an active passer and moves well in the half court. May be an underrated prospect to watch on Saturday.
Tayshaun Mayfield (2022) | 6-1 PF | Hilliard Bradley
Mayfield is a division l football prospect, but a solid hooper as well. His brother is currently out with an injury, which opens the door for Tayshaun to make an impact, which he has. Undersized for his position but makes up for it with strength inside and hustle. Soft touch around the rim, where he does all his work. Facilitator from the paint.
Marcus Johnson (2020) | 6-6 PF | Akron SVSM
Johnson is a bruising force for Akron SVSM that should have an opportunity to grab a ton of rebounds against Sierra Canyon, but will face a tough matchup. Has grown an inch from last season, per the schools roster. A bruiser down low that uses his size to get around and shows off a soft touch in the paint. The senior moves well, often works the pick and roll and is an undervalued passer. Sleeper to watch.
