Marion HS defeated Darlington HS 73-69 in the opening game of 34th Annual Pepsi Carolina Classic. TJ Sanders (2021) came up big for the Swamp Foxes with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Sanders in the process eclipsed the 1,000 points plateau in his high school career. AJ Vaught (2020) a left-handed point guard added 17 points and Mac Washington (2021) chipped in with 13 points.
The Darlington HS Falcons fall to (8-3) on the season. The Falcons were led in scoring by freshman Deuce Hudson with 15 points. Qua’liek Lewis chipped in with 12 points, Javorious Williams 12 points and Tre’Quan Scott added 9 points.
South Florence HS beat Hartsville HS 45-43 to advance to the semifinals on Friday. The Bruins were led in scoring by Brian Sparks (2020) with 17 points and Justice Jackson (2020) added 13 points. The Bruins move to (5-5) on the season.
The Hartsville HS Red Foxes were paced by Cesare Edwards (2021) with 15 points and Jamari Briggs added 12 points. The Red Foxes fall to (4-6) on the year.
The 3rd game of the day featured the Lee Central HS Stallions vs Wilson HS Tigers. The Stallions a Class 2A school defeated the Tigers 49-45. The Stallions will now play in the semifinals vs Marion HS on Friday. DaVeon Thomas (2021) led the Stallions with 25 points while Lebron Thomas (2022) chipped in with 7 points.
The Wilson HS Tigers fall to (5-6) on the season. Najae Hines and Harrison Muldrow both scored 12 points for the Tigers. The Tigers will play arch rival Darlington HS in the consolation bracket on Friday.
North Augusta HS had no problems in the night cap with the West Florence HS Knights winning 54-26. The Yellow Jackets (4-7) will now play South Florence HS in the semifinals on Friday. Colin Rodrigues (2021) led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 17 points, Jordan Wilburn (2021) added 10 points. Senior Omarion Byrd was held scoreless in the game.
West Florence HS falls to (7-4) on the season. Shakeem White scored 9 points while Travis Cooper added 8 points in the lopsided loss. The Knights will now play Hartsville HS in the consolation bracket on Friday.
