We start with the Private School division where teams have been playing for over a month now and players are beginning to set themselves apart from the rest of the crowd. Head to head matchups are key in this batch of rankings as just about every team on this list has played a few teams that are ranked above or below them.
#1. Village Christian Academy (8-2): Key Win: vs Trinity Christian
VCA has hit the ground running and has gotten some big time production from Player of the Year Candidate Senior Guard Zavian Mclean.Senior Forward Josh Reid and Wing Justin Thomas have also put together some nice performance to help the Knights be successful early on. Their only losses have come to teams from out of the area in Moravian Prep (16-0) and Southern Durham (3-1).
#2. Trinity Christian School (12-1): Key wins: Freedom Christian & Fayetteville Academy
With such a young team coming into the season we didn’t really know what to expect from this group but they have hit the ground running and played well so far. Without one single player doing the majority of the scoring for their group, they make themselves difficult to stop on a nightly basis.
#3. Freedom Christian Academy (10-2): Key wins: Fayetteville Academy 2X, Fayetteville Christian
They are a new team from top to bottom so it’s going to take some time for them to mesh and reach their full potential but overall they have gotten off to a good start.. Don’t be surprised to see this team compete for a conference championship and make a nice run when state tournament time comes.
#4. Cape Fear Christian Academy (9-3): Key wins: Northwood Temple, New Life Christian
Another team that has a bit of a different look to them this year but they have a nice amount of seniors that came in so they have plenty of experience. One of the newcomers to the team that is turning heads is Junior Paul Tacko who has put together some 20+ point performances already.
#5. Northwood Temple (9-7): Key Wins: Fayetteville Academy 2X, New Life Christian 2X
They haven’t had the season they were hoping for so far but they have shown some flashes of how good they can be. Senior Wing Reggie Raynor has played his way into being a Player of the Year candidate with some very impressive scoring and rebounding performances.
#6. Fayetteville Christian School (4-6): Although they don’t have a record that is eye pleasing at the moment, they have taken some top teams in the area to the wire so don’t be shocked to see them move up over the next month. They feature a nice collection of Senior talent which includes Forwards Jaden Scriven & Daunte Gardner, who both can put up double/double numbers.
#7. Fayetteville Academy (2-9): Another team that has a high amount of youth on their roster, the Eagles don’t have a single senior that is in the playing rotation and basically an entire new roster from last season. Their record doesn’t justify how well they have played some of the higher ranked teams on the list and what they can possibly be in the future.
#8. New Life Christian (8-7): One of the younger teams in the area, the struggles that they have faced so far are to expected but they seem to be finding their confidence winning the KTC Tip-Off Classic Championship. Senior Guard Dahaun Jones has been one of the leaders for this squad as he has put together quite a few double figure scoring showings.
#9. Berean Baptist Academy (2-4): BBA continues to rebuild and has struggled with being a younger squad as they have played numerous teams from around the county. There is a bright spot for the Bulldogs in 2024 Guard Kenny Vera who is already starting and producing for them as just an 8th grader.
