With a few early-season surprises and as teams round into form, there is a lot of parity around the state. And as teams jump right into league play, there will be opportunities to earn quality wins on a nightly basis.
Here are the teams that had impressive opening weeks:
Bismarck
The Demons broke a pair of school records Saturday in their win over Fargo North, knocking down 19 3-pointers and scoring 107 points. Bismarck’s breaking in an entirely new varsity team this winter after graduating a massive senior class and a blowout win over a Fargo North team that is supposed to be decent is quite a statement.
Fargo Davies
The Eagles opened the year with a solid Bismarck Century team and trailed by seven at halftime. They showed what they are capable of when engaged, turning it up in the second half, to the tune of 49 points. Cam Van Damme led the way with 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists while Grayson Haman chipped in 19 points as well. The Eagles have depth too, as five more guys scored at least six points.
West Fargo Sheyenne
The Mustangs earned perhaps the best win of opening week, going to Mandan and beating the Braves 62-58. The perimeter trio of Blake Berg, Zion Dettman and Tyler Terhark did a lot of the heavy lifting offensively, combining to score 41 points, overcoming a monster effort from Elijah Klein.
