This event was an opportunity for unsigned 2020 prospects to showcase their skills in early season contests against quality competition. Here’s a list of 2020 prospects that I thought helped themselves in front of media, scouts, and college coaches.
Dishon Jackson 6’11 Center St. Patrick – St. Vincent.
I didn’t see a lot of Jackson in the summer, but today he served noticed that he’s a legitimate 6’11 quality prospect who can take his game to the next level. His usual presence in the paint was noticeable, I counted at least 6 blocked shots to go with an abundance of rebounds. The success of this team is dependent upon how dominate he can be in the paint. He did show he can be an effective player 12 ft and in. He did knock down the baseline jumper a few times, and had some success at the elbow on the jumper. He finished with 22 points.
Marcus Greene 6’2 Guard Archbishop Mitty.
The athletic Greene stayed in the flow of the game willing to feed his hot shooting teammates. He’s more than capable of getting hot and showing his scoring ability too. This game his defense was solid against one of the better prospects in Norcal. Greene is a good rebounding guard who has that quick jump to get off the floor before others and get to the ball. He scored 7 points on two 3’s in victory.
Abdur-Rahman Gilcrest 5’9 Guard Newark Memorial
My first look at Gilcrest. He played aggressive the whole game. His quality passing stood out. With his solid body he drove the lane expecting contact and converted several and one’s. He’s got a strong mid range pull up jumper, and he can knock down deep 3’s. He finished with 11 points. He’s has good foot speed, he’s strong and can defend one on one in the open court.
Jaden Saunders 5’9 Point Guard Dublin
A quality guard with good handles does a decent job balancing the floor and being patient at the top. He’s a quality shooter who doesn’t take bad shots, he’s capable of getting hot from three. He has good foot speed and moves well. He’s a consistent contributor and leads by example. He scored 14 points with two 3’s.
Ryzon Norris 6’2 Guard, Bishop O’Dowd
Every now and then a prospect will grab my attention with his defensive effort in a game. Norris may not score a lot, but you can count on him to be a solid defender. He’s strong and has good lateral movement. He can stay with smaller guards or can defend bigger players because of his strength. He’s capable of getting to the basket with strength and is a good ball mover.
Devin Tillis 6’6 Guard/Forward Winward.
Tillis showed me that he can play all five positions at the high school level. He did something positive at each position or area he played. He had to bring the ball up at times, and did a solid job of seeing the floor, passing, and getting the team into its offensive sets. When he wasn’t bringing up the ball, he was getting acquainted with the free throw line, he was 10/10 at the free throw line and finished with 21 points.
