While no comparison is perfect, it is still a worthwhile practice. With that in mind, I’ve come up with NBA comps for some of the best prospects I’ve seen this year. Keep in mind that these are not projections and be on the lookout for more NBA comparison articles in the near future!
Harrison Ingram Harrison Ingram 6'7" | SF St. Mark's | 2021 State #15 Nation TX – 2021 6’7 Small Forward (Marcus Smart YGC36 (Adidas)) Dallas St. Mark’s
NBA Comp – Jimmy Butler
Jimmy Buckets has transformed the Heat into a top team in the Eastern Conference since arriving in Miami. He is one of the best two-way players in the association. His ability to affect every aspect of a game is why I have selected him as the comp for Harrison Ingram Harrison Ingram 6'7" | SF St. Mark's | 2021 State #15 Nation TX . The No. 1 player in our 2021 rankings was very impressive during the Dallas Mavericks Fall Classic back in November. He is an alpha on the court who can dribble, score, pass, and rebound. He is also a solid defender. His diverse game is very reminiscent of Butler.
Greg Brown Greg Brown 6'8" | PF Vandegrift | 2020 State #4 Nation TX – 2020 6’8 Forward (Nike Texas Titans (EYBL)) Austin Vandegrift HS
NBA Comp – Brandon Ingram
Ingram has developed into one of the top young players in the NBA. The fourth-year forward out of Duke is an excellent shooter who also utilizes his long strides to get to the rim at will. His combination of skill, length, and athleticism reminds me of Greg Brown Greg Brown 6'8" | PF Vandegrift | 2020 State #4 Nation TX . Brown has a pretty jumper and can rain down threes when he’s hot, but the top ranked player in our 2020 rankings really shines when he attacks the basket and finishes above the rim. He handles the ball very well for a player of his size and is comfortable shooting from deep range. The forward can operate in a number of roles defensively as well. He is going to make a college coach very happy once he commits.
Logan McLaughlin Logan McLaughlin 6'1" | PG Hebron | 2020 State #462 Nation TX – 2020 6’2 Point Guard (3D Empire) Hebron HS
NBA Comp – Victor Oladipo
The 27-year old two-time All Star hasn’t stepped on the court thus far during the 2019-20 regular season. However, he is still regarded as a top talent in the NBA. Oladipo is a fantastic ball handler who can score from all three-levels, similar to 2020 prospect Logan McLaughlin Logan McLaughlin 6'1" | PG Hebron | 2020 State #462 Nation TX . The Abilene Christian commit can shoot the three at a high clip from the catch as well as off the dribble. He also has a smooth mid-range game. Additionally, McLaughlin is deceptively athletic and can blow by defenders with his quick burst and finish through traffic with relative ease. He can play on or off the ball too, similar to Oladipo.
Trace Boling – 2020 6’4 Guard The Village HS
NBA Comp – Lonzo Ball
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft still has room to grow offensively, but he is already a great defender and can contribute in a variety of ways at both ends. Ball’s pass-first mentality parallels that of Trace Boling, who I believe is one of the most underrated prospects in Texas. The senior guard loves to move the basketball and never lets it to stick to him. Like Ball, Boling can contribute on the glass which allows him to immediately start the break. He is incredibly accurate with his passes but can also score on the drive and even drill the three ball when left open. The 2020 prospect was named the MVP of the DMFC and led his team to a first-place finish in the tournament. It’s a crime that he isn’t receiving more attention.
