Westover kept fighting until the end
The opening game of the 2019 Millbrook Showcase between Westover and Granville Central was quite a way to kick off the event. It looked like Granville Central sealed the victory after a tough stepback fadeaway from 2021 guard Terence Harcum Jr. put them up 57-55 with 1.7 seconds left but Westover didn’t give up.
A half-court heave to 2021 guard Darius Jewell gave them all they needed as Jewell calmly turned up the court and drained a 3-pointer from the volleyball line as time expired. Ironically, it was Jewell’s second make from 3-point land all game as he went 2-of-8 in the game but he made the shot that counted the most as he propelled his team to victory.
Terence Harcum Jr. continues to impress
2021 guard Terence Harcum Jr. showed good command on the offensive end for Granville Central as he finished with a game-high 25 points along with six rebounds. He shot it at volume for his squad going 9-of-25 from the floor and didn’t make a 3-pointer, shooting 0-for-7, but he took shots with room and with good rhythm. As the year progresses, don’t be surprised if he’s in the conversation for Player of the Year at the 1A level.
D’Marco Dunn shows off potential on the wing
Another player who impressed was 2021 guard D’Marco Dunn, a new addition to Westover’s squad. Dunn finished with 23 points and seven rebounds on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor and 2-of-4 shooting from 3-point range. He came in holding an offer from VCU and UTEP and he showed why, showing off his length and athleticism. He even went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line. He’ll be a prospect to keep an eye on at Westover.
Traymond Willis-Shaw another piece to the puzzle
2020 forward Traymond Willis-Shaw didn’t have a game where he filled up the stat-sheet for Westover. Willis-Shaw finished with eight points and seven rebounds, showing flashes of his length and touch around the rim in the post. He holds offers from UNC-Greensboro, South Carolina State and Radford. As he improves his strength in the weight room, he’ll be a prospect to keep an eye on at the next level.
Jamari Mann working out of slump
The other half of Granville Central’s dynamic duo, 2021 guard Jamari Mann, is working through a bit of a slump since producing 15.6 points per game on 34 percent shooting from 3-point range in 2018-19. In 2019-20, he’s averaging 11.5 points per game on 21 percent shooting from 3-point range. He did put up 15 points on 4-of-10 shooting from 3-point land against Westover but it came in defeat. Hopefully, this game is the boost he needed to get back to his old self.
