Dunn & Nobles pace the victory for Garner
The Garner Magnet Trojans got a much-needed victory over the Heritage Huskies 70-62 in the second game of the 2019 Millbrook Showcase thanks to solid performances from 2020 guard Daveon Dunn and 2020 wing Christopher Nobles. Dunn took home Game MVP honors with 14 points and nine assists while Nobles led the way in scoring with 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting. When these two are both on, positive things tend to happen for the Trojans as was the case against Heritage. It should certainly boost their confidence going forward the rest of the season.
Ben Hines played the X-Factor
2021 sharpshooter Ben Hines also played quite the role in Garner’s victory with 16 points off the bench with four made 3-pointers. He saw a big bench all game long and really showed poise from behind the arc and shot 6-of-9 from the field, playing a role in the victory.
Garner shoots 58 percent for the game
The Trojans saw a big basket all game, shooting 58 percent from the field which played a role in their victory. They didn’t take too many 3-pointers as a team, going 5-of-8 from the arc as a team and stuck to their guns for much of the game. In the second half, they shot 65 percent from the floor as a team. It was definitely a game where they did what they do well. 2022 forward Asa White showed flashes of his potential with 10 points and seven rebounds as well.
Heritage duo combines for 45 points
2021s Lucas Taylor and Red Dunton both had solid games for Heritage, but it was enough as Taylor finished with 25 points and nine rebounds and Dunton put up 20 points and five rebounds on an efficient 6-of-11 shooting from the floor. Both were like their usual selves, pacing the squad on offense and they had a strong third quarter, as they shortened the deficit to four points entering the fourth but in the end, it wasn’t enough.
Heritage still looking for their third scorer
The Huskies know they’re going to get a lot out of their studs, Lucas Taylor and Red Dunton, but they still need more from their supporting cast to get over the hump. 2020 point guard Tre Waller finished with just six points but also five assists. 2021 guard Jalen Rochelle finished with 11 points as well but it’s more of a frontcourt presence the Huskies are lacking outside of their dynamic duo. If you take away their combined 45 points and 14 rebounds, it leaves just Waller and Rochelle as the only players who scored points and 10 rebounds for them as a team.
