I was able to observe Millard North’s December 4th practice in preparation for their first game of the season against Lincoln High. Here is an outlook of the players that will make an impact for the top ranked team in Nebraska.
Hunter Sallis – 6’5 Guard – Class of 2021
Hunter Sallis is raking in the D1 offers after an impressive summer in the Adidas Gauntlet and it is easy to see why. Sallis is an effortless jumper and excellent finisher. He has a skill for using jab steps and ball fakes to get the defense off balance before he ever puts the ball on the ground. Hunter could get his shot off in a phone booth with his straight up and down form and has range to the 3-point line. However, he is especially dangerous within 20 feet off the dribble.
Max Murrell – 6’9 Center – Stanford Commit Class of 2020
Max Murrell is the first of what should be many Millard North players to make a commitment to a college program. The future Stanford Cardinal is a great athlete for a player of his size. Max runs the floor well, finishes lobs, and can take off from outside the lane to hammer home dunks. He can also stretch defenses out. The senior big is such a good shooter that Millard North will run him through elevators and off screens to get him open 3-point looks.
Saint Thomas – 6’6 Forward – Class of 2021
Saint Thomas is an under the radar prospect that does a lot of things really well. Thomas is big, physical, shoots the ball well, and can play multiple positions. He can create and finish through contact at the rim and while running the floor in transition. Saint will wear out team with his size and energy. With the amount of bigs on this roster, Thomas will spend a lot of time at the small forward position, where he can post up and finish over smaller defenders.
Jadin Johnson – 6’4 Point Guard – Class of 2021
Jadin Johnson is exactly the kind of player that Millard North needed to fill out this roster of bigs and scorers. Johnson is a transfer from Iowa’s Abraham Lincoln High School and will be the primary ball handler and distributor for his new team. The 6’4 guard is a crafty and willing passer. He plays with great pace, getting the ball up the court quickly before the defense has a chance to get set up. Jadin will keep the ball moving and give opposing teams problems with his size and the point guard position.
Jasen Green – 6’7 Forward – Class of 2022
Jasen Green is youngest player on the varsity squad at Millard North and is looking to improve upon an impressive freshman season where he averaged 7.1 points per game. The sophomore forward looks most comfortable faced up to the basket knocking down threes and attacking closeouts. At 6’7 Green may be the best shooter on this team and will create plenty of space for playmakers to operate. Though Jasen spends a lot of time on the perimeter, he is a physical rebounder and has good footwork and touch around the rim.
Tyler Sandoval – 6’8 Center – Class of 2021
Tyler Sandoval is another lengthy player that is solid defensively and can really shoot. Having a player like Sandoval coming off the bench is not common. Many teams in the state would kill to have a 6’8 player of his skill as their interior presence. Tyler competes on both ends, blocks shots, and can spread defenses out with his perimeter shooting.
Noah Erickson – 6’6 Forward – Class of 2020
Noah Erickson is an athletic multi-positional player that brings a lot of energy to the court. In practice, Erickson plays hard and finishes any time he can with a dunk. He fights for rebounds on both ends, moves the ball, and attacks gaps with a purpose. Having yet another skilled, tall, athletic player to come off the bench is such a luxury for this already loaded team.
