We’ve put together a Class AA Top 10. The first four weeks of action were considered, but most of these teams are in this for the long, long season. Don’t expect these teams to lose much, and one or two boulders are unlikely to derail the ten trains below.

1. Jackson South Side (7-0)
Last week: 2
Peak: 1
With two more wins, South Side is making their debut at PrepHoopsTN #1. Wooddale and Fayette-Ware are both fantastic teams too, but South Side is the only unbeaten team deserving of #1 consideration right now. Will lose no more than 4 games this entire season. Pounded Lexington, 84-42 this week and narrowly dispatched of Bolivar Central, 76-71.
2. Fayette-Ware (4-1)
Last week: 1
Peak: 1
Southwind delivered the first and only blemish to the Wildcats’ sparkling record thus far. The school was patiently waiting for these players to grow up, and this is a wonderful opportunity now. Their best win was over South Gibson, 83-76.
3. Wooddale(2-2)*
Last week: 3
Peak: 1
Defending State Champions. Johnathan Lawson welcomes longtime AAU teammate and friend Jalen Brown to an already strong team. Defeated by Memphis East (@PrepHoopsTN AAA#2), 90-79. Wooddale and South Side played this past Summer and Wooddale won by 3 or 4. They were both missing key players.
4. Pearl-Cohn (2-0)
Last week: 4
Peak: 4
Smashed Hume-Fogg by 20 points Friday. Pearl is a program on the cusp. Don’t be surprised if they challenge for a district and region title. Will be challenged for the first time this upcoming weekend in the Henry Bowles Classic at Howard High (South Atlanta, North Atlanta, Tyner Academy).
5. East Nashville (6-1)
Last week: 5
Peak: 5
Easily handled Stratford and RePublic. Check out their wins: Franklin, Sycamore, Cane Ridge, Hillsboro, Stratford, RePublic! Lost to Mt. Juliet (@PrepHoopsTN AAA#4), 79-66.
6. Tyner Academy (6-0)
Last week: 6
Peak: 6
Demolished Brainerd, 70-46. Two top challengers come to Chattanooga to meet Tyner this weekend. The Rams will meet Maplewood and Pearl Cohn (#4).
7. Greeneville (6-0)
Last week: 7
Peak: 7
Two road wins last week as the Greene Devils toppled South Greene and Dobyns-Bennett. Wins over Daniel Boone, Maryville, and Powell.
8. Fulton (3-1)
Last week: 9
Peak: 8
Three games this weekend will reveal what Fulton is.
9. Community (11-0)
Last week: 10
Peak: 9
T10. Upperman (8-0)
Last week: Unranked
Peak: 10
Knocked off one of the toughest District 8AA York Institute. Three Upperman players have been ranked for the last year+: Alex Rush (PrepHoopsTN #62), Colin Gore (#115), Jace McWilliams. Fellow ’21 Isaiah Allen is very capable of scoring in bunches and senior Filip Babic is a lower block behemoth.
T10. Maplewood (7-0)
Last week: Unranked
Peak: 10
Relatively soft schedule so far. Only Hume-Fogg projects to finish top half of their district.
Newcomers: Upperman
Drop Zone: South Gibson
Considered (in descending order of strongest case for inclusion): Ripley (8-2), Dyersburg (6-2), Raleigh-Egypt (6-1), Austin-East (3-1), Covington (6-2), Scott (8-0), Carter (7-2), Howard (3-0), Sweetwater (7-1), South Gibson (6-3), Polk County (6-0), Sullivan South (7-1), Alcoa (6-3).
