This year will mark the 24th anniversary of the tournament, and it once again will feature the type of likely future college and NBA stars the LSI has been accustomed to showcasing for more than two decades. On Friday the action moves into the quarterfinals, in this article we look at some of the standouts from quarterfinal action.
Marquis Cook 6’6 SF Jefferson 2023 (featured image) – The freshmen helped the local team cruise to an easy win. He scored in transition, off post-ups and even knocked down a 3. He finished with 26 and 6 as Jefferson moved into the semis.
JT Thor 6’10 PF Norcross 2020 – Thor spent a good portion of the afternoon hanging on the rim. He had several thunderous dunks to set the tone early. In addition to his scoring, he was also the best overall rim protector on the day as he blocked four shots and altered several others. He finished with 20 and 6 to go along with those 4 blocks as Norcross moved into the Semifinals.
Harrison Hornery 6’9 PF Mater Dei 2021 – Hornery showed why he is one of the best stretch bigs on the West Coast. Displayed a nice touch and excelled at pick and pop basketball and stretching the floor. He finished with 20 including going 4-6 from behind the arc to lead Mater Dei into the semis.
Jaylahn Tuimoloau 6’5 PF Eastside Catholic 2021 – The football stud just may have a career in basketball. He was unguardable. He scored 14 in the second quarter alone and finished with 25 for the game. Eastside Catholic advanced to the semis with a 3 point victory over Bishop Gorman.
Brian Goracke 6’5 SG Churchill 2020 – Goracke was big in the 2nd half. He scored 8 consecutive points at one point to bring the Lancers within striking distance. The Point Loma commit led the team with 15.
Nate Bittle 6’11 PF Crater 2021 – I have a simple philosophy, whenever I watch a game, and they’re quadruple teaming one player, I’m interested in that player. Despite being fronted, having a man behind and facing a swarm of defenders once he caught it, Bittle still showed why he is one of the top Juniors in the country. Fluid big that made plays for teammates. Bittle finished with 15 and 12 despite the loss.
Willhelm Breidenbach 6’9 PF Mater Dei 2021 – The big man did what he always seems to do for Mater Dei. He defended rebounded and played the role of the heart and soul of the defense. He finished with 11 and 11 to help the Monarchs advance to the semis.
Lamar Washington 6’4 SF Jefferson 2022 – Lamar Washington brought his unique brand of basketball to the Les Schwab Invitational. The Point Forward built like a fullback stuffed the stat sheet. He rebounded, distributed and scored helping Jefferson reach the semis.
