Joey Bratz – 2020 – SG – Lake Country Lutheran
A kid we may need to rank by the end of the season, Bratz had 17 points in Thursday’s win. Had he not been in foul trouble, Bratz easily would have hit the 20-point mark. With Luke Haertle drawing most of the attention from the opposition, Bratz took advantage of his 1-on-1 opportunities. A lanky guard who’s a little more athletic than he looks, Bratz can shoot it from downtown and hit shots off the dribble. Asserting himself in the game early, Bratz was a big reason for LCL’s 12-0 run to begin the game.
Matt Davis – 2020 – G – Lakeside Lutheran
Davis only had five points, but he made some key, instinctive plays for Lakeside Lutheran throughout the night. The senior guard had a steal followed by a 3-pointer in the first half that helped his team gain some much-needed momentum going into the break. Down the stretch, Davis was a big reason why Lakeside Lutheran grabbed a late lead. Recorded back-to-back assists, Davis created some defensive breakdowns by getting into the paint, drawing defenders, and zipping passes inside for easy buckets.
Luke Haertle – 2022 – SG – Lake Country Lutheran
While it’s fun to see star players go off, it’s perhaps more valuable to see them when they struggle. Haertle had Lakeside Lutheran’s full attention. Every time Haertle put the ball on the deck, he was swarmed by multiple defenders. Officials also allowed a lot of physical play, which only added to Haertle’s frustration, who prefers to bully his way into the paint. Unable to get many clean looks at the basket, Haertle did other things to help keep his team in front. A gritty, blue collar prospect, Haertle stuffed the stat sheet with rebounds, assists, and steals. Finishing with 14 points, Haertle also composed himself late and hit four clutch free throws down the stretch.
Collin Schulz – 2020 – G – Lakeside Lutheran
Schulz had some very nice plays in transition. A good-looking athlete, Schulz plays well in an uptempo style. He’ll challenge people at the rim and elevates very well for his size/frame. Scoring a team-high 11 points in what was a defensive battle all night, Schulz had a huge 3-point play late in the game as it looked as if Lakeside Lutheran might steal the game.
Carter Schneider – 2020 – G – Lakeside Lutheran
Schneider made his biggest impact on the defensive end. Matched up with Haertle for most of the game, Schneider just didn’t give up anything easy. Matching Haertle’s physicality, you just never saw Schnieder really get beat. He was able to hang on the perimeter and down on the block. The senior guard also chipped in with 10 points.
