I saw some exciting prospects and look forward to giving you my evaluations each and every Sunday throughout the season. It is time to recap this week and look at what our exciting 2021, 2022, and 2023 prospects did.
Bedford North Lawrence:
Ben Cosner – 6’3 2021 W/F: Cosner had his best weekend yet this season. Had two really good drives and dishes to his teammates and his jumper looked to finally start connecting. He is still one of the best defenders I have seen this year so far. If his offense can consistently start coming together, Cosner is going to be a prospect to keep an eye on.
Kooper Staley – 6’0 2021 SG: Offense has kind of stalled as of late but he has found ways to contribute for his team. His passes were on point and he is rebounding a lot more as well. He did connect on a few catch-and-threes but has not consistently been connecting. On Saturday he had good game of dropping 11 points on 4 for 8 shooting. One big area of improvement I have for Staley is to keep shooting because it is known that he can light it up in any game.
Jackson Miracle – 6’4 2021 PF: Miracle continues to improve. Had a couple nice putbacks and his baseline jumper is almost automatic. Add in a couple of blocks, Miracle had a good weekend. Strength is still a concern but that is something he can work on with hitting the weight room.
Colten Leach – 6’1 2023 G/F: Leach played pretty well this week. He is getting more and more comfortable in his starting role and continues to play tough. He is one of the best players I have seen at stealing the ball as well. Would like to see what his jumper looks like as he has not shown that too often.
Bloomington North:
Isaac Vencel – 6’1 2021 SG: Vencel played a lot more aggressively than when I saw him in week 1 of the season. Had a really good reflection that lead to a turnover and took it the basket a lot more. Used his high vertical to block a shot as well. Vencel is a good athlete and he shows it on the court. He ended up with 13 points against Fishers.
JaQualon Roberts – 6’5 2023 F: Roberts is one of the best freshman in the state. His athletic ability is tremendous and he makes it hard for defenders to stop him down low. Had a very impressive, contested, up-and-under that resulted in an And 1. Had a thunderous block as well.
Nick Klaiber – 6’0 2022 PG: Klaiber is one of the more explosive point guards I have seen play. That explosiveness comes from his aggressiveness which allows him take it to the basket fairly easy. Just needs to work on his finishing at the rim. Klaiber is a nice 2022 prospect to keep an eye on.
Scottsburg:
Hayden Cutter – 6’3 2022 SF: Cutter runs the floors really well for a big man. There were some points in the game that he showed smoothness around the rim. The one thing he needs to focus on is adding some more muscle to his big body. Really solid center that will get better within the next two years.
Evansville Harrison:
Terrence Ringo – 6’5 2021 SF: Ringo is such a tall SF. He does most of his damage in the post area and does not really show too much of a jumper. He has a really nice, quick spin move when posting up on a defender. Also has a rare running hook shot that you do not see very often.
University:
Camden Brown – 6’7 2021 PF: Brown is an extremely long, athletic PF. He does most of his damage on the defensive end as he racked up some nice blocks and defensive rebounds this past weekend. He is real physical inside as well. Brown is a problem down low.
Lawrence Pierce – 6’5 2022 SF: Pierce is one of the bigger wings I have seen play. Really good handles that leads him to score easily. He knows how he needs to score and can both drive and shoot. Really good length on this sophomore.
Fishers:
Jeffrey Simmons – 6’7 2022 PF: Simmons finished the night with 17 points and was the leading scorer. Pretty much all of his points came from the post area as he was dominate down there. One of his best moves of the night was his pump fake in transition to snag a bucket. Simmons is good power forward.
Bryce Williams – 6’0 2022 PG: Williams does a good job with getting himself open looks, especially under the basket. He is also really good at stretching his body when going up for a layup. Smart sophomore that plays like he is a senior on the court.
