Donovan Jones (Solorio – 2022)
Jones who is a 6’0” scoring point guard is one of the better combos in the sophomore class. The top 10 prospect started things off the right way in their 8:30 AM game. High level shot maker especially from mid-range. He was able to get to his spots consistently where he rose up for shots whether it was from three or mid-range. Also showcased his ability to get to the rim off the bounce and to the charity stripe. He had 31 points (10-13 FG).
Sincere Key (Solorio – 2020)
Key is a small college 6’2” two guard that had an excellent game. Key was a little out of control early, but then got it going as it went on. Knocked down 3-11 from three point range. Inside the paint he was more effective hitting a baseline pull up, runner, and getting on the glass. Went for 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Michael Morawski (Andrew – 2022)
This 6’4” combo forward is a sophomore that had a nice performance in their early morning game. The lefty has decent size and strength. Little undersized as a post and not quite athletic enough on the perimeter, but was effective as a spot up shooter drilling 4-8 from three. Also did a solid job crashing the glass. Scored 14 points.
Joe Alfirevich (Providence Catholic – 2020)
We caught the first half of Providence’s game against Timothy Christian. Alfirevich had it rolling early scoring from all three levels effectively. Likes the runner game. Strong upper body allows him to take a bump in the paint. Capable three point shooter. Drive and kick threat as a distributor. He had 25 points (10-20 FG), 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists.
Jayden Johnson (Batavia – 2020)
Johnson is perhaps the most under recruited senior in the state. The top 15 prospect is a high IQ player that when he gets rolling from three is one of the best around. Early on he was feeling it from three hitting several. As the game went on he didn’t have them fall at as high of a rate as they usually do going 3-11 from deep. Crafty around the hoop and gets on the glass. Rebounds well for a wing. He had 24 points and 6 rebounds. Visited UIC after the game on Monday.
Dan Florey (St. Ignatius – 2020)
Florey is a quality small college shooting prospect. At 6’2” when locked in he is among the better shooters in the Chicago Catholic League. Florey went 6-10 from three. Didn’t force too many bad shots, passed it pretty well, and made a good amount of trips to the charity stripe. He had 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Timaris Brown (St. Patrick – 2022)
Brown stands at 6’5” and this sophomore came to play on Monday. Physical body for a young forward. Plays with toughness in the paint finishing around the hoop with dump off passes and drilled several 15 foot jumpers. The lefty showed off an improved shooting stroke also hitting 2-4 from three. Went for 16 points.
Paul Zilinskas (Riverside Brookfield – 2020)
This 6’5” small forward is among the better options available for D2 programs at the wing spot. Such a skilled player with broad shoulders and a strong build. Moves well without the ball to get open and drills threes with a quick release. Much more than a shooter however. Handles have got better throughout the course of his career. He had 21 points and 9 rebounds.
Max Christie (Rolling Meadows – 2021)
The state’s top prospect showed a few of the reasons why he is considered by most the best college prospect regardless of class in Illinois. Long and lanky shooting guard that has the best of the best pursuing him at the next level. He is having a strong sophomore campaign. Early on he hit several tough shots including a turnaround fade away and a three pointer off movement. Gets elevation off the floor on his shot. Was the best rebounder on the floor as he collected a huge amount of them. His line was 22 points (8-19 FG), 17 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Cam Christie (Rolling Meadows – 2023)
The little brother also had a standout performance. Probably the best we have seen him in his young career. At 6’0” he was a factor early in transition getting loose for scoop shots and pull up jumpers. Capable three point shooter. Showed a solid feel for the game as a freshman. He had 16 points and 5 dimes.
Grant Niego (Lyons – 2020)
Niego is a high level small college prospect. The 6’2” point guard has gotten stronger in his upper body. He was spectacular on Monday afternoon knocking down jumpers from all over the floor. Both his mid-range and three ball were falling at a high rate. Crisp moving away from the ball and has a quick release. For this team he has to take a lot of shots to win. That is exactly what he did going for 32 points (13-31 FG) in the victory.
Nick Harrell (Brother Rice – 2022)
Harrell is a long and rangy sophomore wing that has a ton of upside long term. Highly efficient with his touches getting points as a finisher in the open floor along with converting dump off passes and getting on the offensive glass for put backs. Like his long term potential defensively with his length and athleticism. He had 12 points (5-6 FG).
Garrett Horner (Wheaton North – 2020)
Horner first opened our eyes on the summer travel team circuit with IBA Mann. With his high school team he is the go to scorer. He is at his best spotting up for three point shots. Went 5-10 from beyond the arc. Mixed in several tough straight line takes using his upper body strength to score in the paint. Scored 28 points.
