Game Recap: In a thrilling game, it was all Hewitt-Trussville Huskies for the first three quarters. But the Huntsville Panthers remained patient. They upped the intensity on defense late in the game and cut the eight point lead to force overtime. In OT, they hit their free throws and Hewitt had gone cold. Huntsville stole a big road win in a tough environment/
#1 Cameron Glover, Hewitt: James Harden. The left-handed Cameron Glover was clearly the best player on the floor from the start. His handles were so smooth and effective using double moves to get to his spots on the floor. He could attack with both hands and passed well with both hands. His attacks opened up the floor for his teammates, whether kicking it outside or dumping down the in post. He showed he had an effective shot-fake that opened up his mid-range jumper and really showed his “Hardenness” with a stepback three over two defenders.
#3 Massiah Morris, Huntsville: De’Aaron Fox: De’Aaron self-proclaimed himself to be the “fastest player in the NBA” and he’s shown that. You do not want to get in the way when he is coming down the court. Massiah is no different and was clearly one of the fastest players on the court Friday night. He seemed at his best when he got the ball moving down the court with a head of steam. He needs to be careful not to lose control, but the young sophomore guard has plenty of upside.. His speed caused problems in the full-court press late in the fourth quarter enabling sideline traps and forcing Hewitt to call timeouts.
#5 J’Vahn Durgan, Hewitt: Patrick Beverly. If there’s one thing Patrick Beverly does, it’s bring energy and heart. J’Vahn took a big charge early in the second half and played really good defense against bigger players, despite his 5’8″ frame. His spacing was great throughout the game, sliding to the corners to get his open shot. He made a few, but struggled to shoot the ball. But the good spacing and scrappiness is only going to flourish as the season progresses.
#10 Timothy Brisco, Hewitt: Marcus Smart. Similar to Marcus Smart, Timothy was extremely scrappy and not afraid to take a hit. He clearly was not the most skilled “basketball” player on the floor, but he played with his heart. He stepped in and took some big hits, including some charges and some blocks too. H set good screens and used his smaller build correctly when boxing out bigger opponents.
#23 Jackson West, Huntsville: Nikola Jokic: Jokic is the focal point of the Denver Nuggets and can do it all. He can play with his back to the basket, he can pass, he can shoot, and he can get rebounds. Jackson was a huge reason the Panthers stayed in the game and ultimately rallied for the win. He consistently got to the free throw line and made his free throws. His 6’4″ and 222 pound body proved to be an advantage for him. He knew how to use his body to get position in the post and was able to finish strong. He even showed a little bit of the “Point-Forward” late in the game as he stole the ball and barreled down the court.
