Breckenridge, Minnesota and McIntosh, South Dakota both are communities that are right on the North Dakota border but in many different areas. Back to the basketball roots, the Breckenridge Cowboys (3-4) powered through an under matched McIntosh Tigers (2-6) team. See who stood out from both programs in this first game of this Saturday morning from the Hoop City Classic.
Zach Bertolotto, Guard, Mcintosh (SD)
The team MVP for the McIntosh Tigers today has to go to Bertolotto. Although the margin of victory won’t impress most, the effort Bertolotto put in the entire game is something to get a little excited about for this 2-6 Tigers squad. Bertolotto finished well in the paint and from mid-range and finished with 13 points for the McIntosh Tigers.
Carson Bailey, Forward, McIntosh (SD)
Bailey was a persistent shooter for the Tigers. Whenever McIntosh needed a boost, Bailey was the guy to give them what they need. Although the Tigers took a large loss to Breckenridge, Bailey was a top 2 contributor for the Tigers which should be a boost to his resume.
Anthony Conzemius, Forward, Breckenridge (2021)
Conzemius was the grinder for the Cowboys this morning. Not only solid in the post and around mid-range but was also a board collector that was too tough to match up with for the McIntosh Tigers. He led both teams in the rebounding category.
Jonah Christensen, Forward, Breckenridge (2021)
Christiansen was an improved shooter in this one compared to his recent games. He scored very close to his season average but performed much better from inside the three-point line. He was a great 2nd punch to Nieto’s game he had.
Game MVP
Chris Nieto, Forward, Breckenridge (2021)
Nieto was a fire pop shooter for Breckenridge. He was good in the first half and was excellent from mid-range in the 2nd half of this one. Nieto gets two awards from Northstar Hoops, the game MVP and the “diamond in the rough” player of the game as he was only averaging under 5 points per game this season up to this game.
The Breckenridge Cowboys (3-4) will play at Morris Area/Chokio Alberta (2-5) on January 2nd in Morris at 4:30 PM.
The McIntosh Tigers (2-6) will go play in another holiday tournament in the Huron Holiday Classic on Monday against James Valley Christian who has yet to win a game this season.
