Hidden Gem Duane Posey

Duane Posey is ranked in the top 20 statewide. You can’t be hidden if you are top 20, can you? ‘Well, he plays for a team nobody knows.’ Wrong! Posey suits up for Memphis East in this his senior season. How is Posey not a household name, walking down the street with pockets full of college scholarship offers?
It boggles at least this one mind.
Posey is obnoxiously bouncy, the kind of easy riser that YMCA league men believe themselves to be. Posey gets his forehead rim-high frequently as both a dunker and a rebounder. Most of his teenage life Posey spent and is spending as a power forward with insane springs and strong arms/shoulders. He was a handful while suiting up for Melrose and continues to be a destructive force with Memphis East.
So, this mind asked the great mind of PrepHoopsTN’s Courtney Asher Smith to break down his game and his potential.
How will his game translate to a college program?
“His game should be an easy transition to college since he has a mid-range game,” shared Courtney Asher Smith. “At 6-6, his ball handling will need to improve, especially if he wants to play Division 1 basketball. His athleticism and rebounding ability is a plus for the next level.
Does he fit the Memphis East system? What is his role with the program?
“He fits perfectly with Memphis East because coach Holmes likes to run a lot of pick-and-roll action with his big men,” shared Courtney Asher Smith. “Posey is the best the Mustangs have right now. He can either roll to the basket and finish at the rim or knock down the 17-footer. His role on this team is to be one of the team’s best offensive weapons, the team’s best rebounder and one of the vocal leaders.”
What level do you see him playing, if any, after high school?
“Right now, I can see Posey starting out at a junior college,” shared Courtney Asher Smith. “He could end up at a low-major D1 school. That’s where I see him.”
Duane Posey is currently ranked #16 in the state of Tennessee. Too see the full 2020 player rankings click here.
