2019 Governor’s Challenge Preview: Liberty Heights Institute
The Liberty Heights Institute Cardinals return to the 2019 Governor’s Challenge in what has become an annual trip for them. Here’s a look at an early preview.
Dejuante “Tay” Williams, 2020, Forward
Tay Williams is a 6-foot-8 forward that can do a little bit of everything with his length. He flies above the rim and finishes strong around the rim. He’s developing his jump shot as well. He recently received an offer from Mississippi Valley State in the past week.
Jemal Davis, 2020, Forward
Jemal Davis is another sizeable frontcourt option that’s a better shooter than Williams, especially in the pick-and-pop game. He can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim as well. He’s a solid paint presence on both ends and does well to shore up the Liberty Heights defense. He also holds an offer from Mississippi Valley State.
Kam Edwards, 2020, Wing/Forward
Kam Edwards has come a long way on the wing this season so far for Liberty Heights. He’s an emerging sharpshooter that can fill it up from deep and uses his size well to defend the basketball at 6-foot-5. He’ll be an X-Factor type player in the Governor’s Challenge.
Kahari Rogers, 2020 G, Liberty Heights
Kahari Rogers is a big guard at 6-foot-6 that can get to the rim and finish as well as knock down the outside shot with ease. Rogers is slowly learning how to use his strength to get around defenders and as he improves upon his skills with his budding shot, he’s another player to keep eyes on at Liberty Heights.
Schedule
12/27 – 6:45 PM – Balboa (CA)
Balboa possesses a trio of guards in Deshaun Cooper, Solomon Little and E.J. Neal that should pose as a solid challenge for the Cardinals. They’re 17-2 so far on the season while playing a national schedule.
12/28 – 3:15 PM – Bishop McNamara (MD)
In a rematch of a 2018 matchup, Bishop McNamara looks to avenge last year’s loss with a more experienced frontcourt led by Favour Aire (2022), Terrence Butler (2021) and 2021 guard David Brown Jr.
