Though there will be a few highly ranked prospects playing, there are also loads of sleeper players having productive seasons. Prep Hoops dives into some of the top prospects to watch at the event.
Jack Rose (6’4 2022 SG, Westosha Central)- Rose will be the highest rated prospect playing at Carthage, as he comes in as the #3 overall player in the state’s 2022 class. As one of the more polished players in the class, he’s been off to a productive start to his sophomore season, averaging 16.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest as the Falcon’s go-to player. A dangerous scorer whose pull-up jumper can catch fire at any given moment, Jack Rose is a player who could take over a game in an instant.
Shilo Bowles (6’7 2020 F, West Allis Central)- Bowles is a player who’s really been exploding onto the recruiting scene over the past eight or so months, and has continued that rise into his senior season. Through five games he’s averaging near a double-double with 18.2 ppg and 9.8 rpg, while shooting the ball at 68% from the field. A long and athletic prospect that can play at the 3 or the 4, Shilo is starting to turn his potential into consistent production, and colleges are starting to take notice. The state’s 21st ranked senior recently earned his first scholarship offer from Northern Michigan, and don’t be surprised if a few more offers start to roll in.
Antuan Nesbitt (6’4 2021 W, The Prairie School)- Antuan Nesbitt has been putting up some ridiculous averages to start out the season for Prairie, and it’s resulted in a 4-2 start for a team that lost some important pieces from last year. Nesbitt, currently ranked as the 19th overall prospect in the 2021 class, has been averaging 19.8 points, 7 rebounds, and 6.2 assists a game to start the year, while also shooting 50% from beyond the arc. With his springs to finish around the rim, advanced passing vision, and improving outside shot, Antuan is an intriguing prospect to watch moving forward.
Da’Quantae Sawyer (6′ 2020 G, Kenosha Bradford)- Bradford was a team I was high on to have a breakout year in the SEC, and Da’Quantae Sawyer was one of the reasons why. He’s an under the radar guard who, though a bit inconsistent in his scoring, can take over a game with his ability to get to the rim. He’s really shifty off the dribble and can power through contact to finish. Sawyer is averaging 11.3 ppg for a 5-2 squad, and has two games of 26 points under his belt. If Da’Quantae can put together some solid performances at Carthage, Bradford could walk away with two more wins.
Ezra Stargell (5’10 2021 PG, Kenosha Indian Trails)- If we were to compile a list of the top passers in Wisconsin, Ezra Stargell could make a case for the top spot. His vision is just that good. And he’s not just a dominant passer either, he can put up big scoring numbers with his deep range and shiftiness getting to the rim. Currently averaging 13.8 ppg in the four games he’s played for a 4-1 ITA squad, Ezra can keep defenders on their toes in a variety of ways. His flashy yet productive play style with have fans on the edge of their seats at Carthage College.
London Glass (6′ 2021 G, Wilmot)- There’s a new Glass shredding opposing defenses for Wilmot now. London, the younger brother of Latrell Glass who once put up a school record 49 points in a game, is off to a strong start as a junior. He’s led Wilmot to a 4-2 start behind 19.5 ppg, 6.2 rpg, and 4.3 apg. He can also play a little defense too, averaging 3.2 steals a game, including a ridiculous 7 steal performance in the season opener. Having personally played against his older brother, I can say London has a very similar play style in that he’s a tough finisher around the rim, has quick hands on defense, and will knock down a jumper in your face if you don’t keep your hand up. Real deep sleeper prospect in the SLC.
Jyon Young (6’2 2020 G, Kenosha Tremper)- Kenosha is filled with under-the-radar guards, and you can add Jyon Young to that list of names. He’s been on a tear as of late, going off for 30+ points in three straight games, including in an upset win on the road at Racine Case. Jyon does a great job of exploiting gaps in the defense, weaving past defenders to get to the rim where he is a crafty finisher. He has also shown the passing vision to dump it off to one of his bigs on the block when the help defense slides over. Jyon is a lanky guard who could take a game over for Tremper.
More Names To Know: Andrew Alia (Kenosha St. Joes), Jeremiah Suber (Kenosha Indian Trails), Maxwell Glass (Kenosha Bradford), Najashi Tolefree (West Allis Central), Kenneth Garth (Westosha Central), Brady Wilks (Racine Lutheran)
