The Westminster Wildcats made the short jaunt over I-75 to visit their nearby neighbor, and the battle of two clubs with a combined 16-4 record set up as a good one. But Pace had their 3A prep school rivals number on Friday night, tallying a 60-32 win, and did it with a lot of skill and flair.
Matt Cleveland (Pace), SF – The night’s star was clearly the 6-7 Cleveland, a high-flying junior and A+ athlete who is garnering attention from a bevy of high-profile programs, including home state familiars UGA and Georgia Tech, as well as Florida, Florida State and Missouri. And it’s easy to see why from this writer’s perspective, Cleveland showed it all against the smaller Wildcat defenders, high-rising for a pair of emphatic dunks while also showing plenty of shooting range, knocking down three 3’s amongst his team-high 21 points. Not currently featured in our 2021 rankings list, he’s a player to watch and one I’d expect to rise significantly as he ramps up in his spring and summer offseason.
Madison DurrMadison Durr (Pace), PG – Also very impressive was the smooth and equally athletic Durr, a 6-5 junior lead guard who oozes confidence with the ball and didn’t waste any time showing it, with 9 of his 18 on the night in a first quarter which saw Pace take control early and never look back in improving to 9-3. His heady defense produced several breakaway finishes which he handled on his own, and with four offers on the books already from the likes of Richmond, UAB, Elon and North Alabama, it’s wouldn’t be a stretch to see Durr at the forefront of a deep Pace playoff run.
Cole Middleton (24)Cole Middleton (Pace), PF – The third of three core juniors for coach Sherman White, Middleton is the bulk carrier where Cleveland and Durr are the highlight reel. But not to be overshadowed, Middleton occupies space, bangs with aplomb inside and is a very capable finisher at the rim. He has a Georgia State offer, and is also receiving interest from other D-1 programs UGA, Clemson and Tulane.
