Francisco's Finest: The Classic at Damien (Standouts/Part 1)

LA VERNE, CA—Each and every season The Classic at Damien continues to build it's reputation and as it stands now, it's the “must-see” tournament on the West Coast. With an eighty team field broken up into five divisions, quality and quantity are at your doorstep. With that being said here is the breakdown of our observations throughout the final day at the top two divisions: Platinum and Gold.

Amound Anderson (Leuzinger)

2020, SG, 6-foot-3, 170 pounds
[caption id="attachment_905753" align="alignleft" width="300"] Anderson should start getting serious DI interest after this event.[/caption]
Joel's Take: Anderson has been on the recruiting radar since his freshman campaign and it's shocking to me why he has zero offers. The rangy lefty is a scoring machine. He can shoot it off the bounce as well as off the catch. He exhibits a good feel for the game with his astute passing. Despite getting double-teamed his demeanor and composure is terrific. He needs to tighten up his freethrow shooting as well as his off hand (right) while attacking pressure, but he's a definite D1 player.

Austin Cook (Damien)

2020, WF, 6-foot-4, 190 pounds

Joel's Take: Cook has a strong frame and sound overall game. His passing prowess is on display in the half court set as well as in transition. When on-balance his jump shot is pure and tight. Post him up and or put him at the elbow and he'll show he is one of the more fundamentally sound passers in So-Cal.

JT Tan (Rolling Hills Prep)

2020, C, 6-foot-6, 245 pounds

Joel's Take: The Lehigh commit is the glue to his team's success. Tan affects the game with his ability to carve out space, good hands, and solid footwork. He is a high-level passer and a fundamentally sound screener. He struggles scoring over length, but he does have nice elbow touch.

Andre Henry (St. Francis)

2020, SG, 6-foot-3, 165 pounds

Joel's Take: Henry was the MVP of the Silver Division and deservedly so. The slippery Henry has a fundamentally sound game. He utilizes the triple threat game and is exceptional at the up-and-under move for the score. His jump shot is on the rise and once his strength kicks in, he'll be a heck of a player at UC Irvine.

Niko Robben (Honolulu, Maryknoll)

2020, PG, 6-foot-4, 175 pounds
[caption id="attachment_905752" align="alignleft" width="300"] Robben has a tight all around game that DII's should take a serious look.[/caption]
Joel's Take: “Basketball Player” is the first description that comes to mind when describing Robben. He has great size for the guard position and he's a fundamentally sound player. He changes speeds very well, protects the ball, and his head is always up. He has a tight pull-up game and he can shoot it from deep as well. DIII's are after him with DII's looking to pull the trigger.
