Mar’Quan Givens – 5’11 PG 2020 – Evansville Reitz (IN)
***12 points on 3/4 shooting, 4 rebounds, 3 assists against Jasper (IN)***
Givens did really well taking his shots and not over-extending himself. He’s a guard who does the best as a catch-and-shoot guy and he was fully locked in on this night with just that. Went 3/4 from deep scoring all his FGs from distance. Did want to see him drive a little more but he played within himself and had 3 assists and no turnovers in the game. Will be interesting to see how he does at the next level when he is more of a point guard and might be asked to be a little more of a driver because he seems to be executing his role perfectly right now.
Jackson Kabrick – 6’2 SG 2020 – Jasper (IN)
***7 points on 1/13 shooting, 4 rebounds, 8 assists against Evansville Reitz (IN)***
Kabrick is a big guard who can shoot the ball at a pretty high level. Didn’t have it tonight not hitting his first three until the second half. He has a ton of strength and a frame that will work in college. The high-academic kid gives you a pretty good combination to dream on. Does pass the ball well within an offense and seemed to be able to dish off to cutters a ton in the first half. Probably won’t face that kind of length normally so would be interesting to see him in a different matchup. As a passer, he was really good with the fast paced play but maybe not so much with his shooting.
Quentin Harmon – 6’6 PF 2020 – Jasper (IN)
***3 points on 1/5 shooting, 6 rebounds against Evansville Reitz (IN)***
Harmon is a lean post forward with some mobility and has the ability to get up and down the floor. His frame is pretty light right now but does look like he will be able to put on quite a bit of strength quickly in college. Is agile around the rim and given this game was so fast paced and quick, not likely an area where he would excel but he didn’t have any issues getting up and down the floor. Does look willing to step out and shoot so that will be something to watch throughout the year.
Carter Stamm – 6’0 PG 2020 – Jasper (IN)
***23 points on 10/13 shooting, 3 rebounds against Evansville Reitz (IN)***
Carter is a solid lead guard who can really get to the rim. He was the one guy for Jasper that was able to drive and get into the lane to finish. He’s a high-energy guard that goes all out. At the rim, he loves to use a little bit of that speed and has enough creativity to finish around the length of Reitz. Was willing to layout for every play and made a high amount of them. Has decent size and while he isn’t a guy that is going to live and die with the three, he did look good enough with his form.
Mason Bost – 6’2 SG 2020 – Evansville Harrison (IN)
***9 points on 4/12 shooting, 5 rebounds against Floyd Central (IN)***
Bost had a really solid game in the second half. He was looking to drive more often and had some toughness at the rim against FC. He was okay with his shooting but wasn’t getting a ton of looks. If he can get to where that driving ability and touch at the rim could be a second scoring option for him, pair that with his shooting potential and you have a pretty useful scoring threat at the next level. Didn’t make a three in this game but is a pretty reliable shooter in most games.
Louis Brock – 6’5 SF 2020 – Castle (IN)
***12 points on 5/5 shooting, 1/1 from three, 6 rebounds against Southridge (IN)***
Louis is a tall forward who can play fast and faced up on the wing. He’s really agile and quick and so long to where he can use it to his advantage. Should be able to be a great small school 4-man that can shoot well and has that next tier development on lock with his ball handling and driving. Get Brock in the open floor and he is a handful to defend with his size and speed.
Aidan Neel – 6’2 SG 2020 – Gibson Southern (IN)
**20 points on 6/12 shooting, 4/7 from three, 3 rebounds against Evansville Central (IN)***
Need is a tall guard who can really shoot the ball. Great frame with strength and toughness. Showed a good mid-range pull-up and his pull-up also seems to work on the perimeter. Ball handling is pretty good and while he isn’t a guy that is going to be a consistent driver to the rim, he’s so good in the mid-range and does a lot on the pull-up. Definitely built more as a wing shooter, his size could come into play defensively at the right level as he plays really smart and tough.
Wde Dixon – 6’6 PF 2020 – Mt. Vernon-Posey (IN)
***6 points on 3/4 shooting, 4 rebounds against Evansville Day (IN)***
Dixon is a long, lean forward with really good mobility and some athleticism. He’s a guy that has a frame that should grow with strength. He’s really good in the lane as a guy that can show a floater or a little hook, he has the offensive tools to score. He’s a little raw at times but could be a great candidate for a JUCO to let him develop a bit more. Could be a much better scorer and prospect with another season or two.
Evan Stills – 6’4 SG 2020 – Mt. Vernon-Posey (IN)
***6 points on 3/6 shooting, 2 rebounds, 2 assists against Evansville Day (IN)***
Stills is a tall guard that has the size and handles to make plays around the rim. He showed he can attack the rim a little bit and finish with an up-and-under or a layup at the rim and through toughness. At 6’4, he’s more of an off-guard but thought his ball handling was pretty solid at this point. Passes the ball well and with his finishing around the rim, he has some offensive ability. He does need to show that he can shoot which I didn’t see yet.
Charlie Peterson – 6’8 PF 2020 – North Central (IN)
***6 points on 2/4 shooting, 3 rebounds against Brownsburg (IN)***
Charlie is a big post who is committed to Army for next season. He struggled early on finishing around the rim as Brownsburg was trying to be physical down low. He did have a couple plays later int he game with a tough rebound putback and a little drive across the lane for a hook. Same thing as in the past, skill is all there but just too passive at times. He could be a pretty dominant post scorer as he can finish with his right hand well, stretch to drive and has the tools to finish at the rim or with a little hook like tonight.
Mike Elliott – 6’2 SG 2021 – North Central (IN)
***4 points on 2/5 shooting, 3 rebounds against Brownsburg (IN)***
Elliott is a big, bruising guard who has some length and a ton of strength. Likes to do most of his scoring around the rim as a guy that will beat you down on drives to the rim. Does help a little on the boards because of his size, he can really battle with forwards in quite a few instances. Didn’t really look to shoot in this one, elected to drive if it was open. Want to see if that is something in his bag because he’s going to need it as a guard. Does give you the versatility, though, to be able to switch defensively without much of a concern.
Connor Lucas – 6’2 SG 2020 – Brownsburg (IN)
***12 points on 4/9 shooting, 5 rebounds against North Central (IN)***
Connor is a solid combo guard who can really shoot the ball. He has a really solid, high release and gets it off quick. Good footwork on the perimeter and seems to always get to his spot at the perfect time. His ball handling is really solid as well so there is the possibility that he can play on the ball if needed at the next level. Liked his ability to rebound the ball. He’s got a knack for being in the right spot and he gets a little bonus with his height. Want to see if he can create more on the wing as a shooter or if he will be more of a catch-and-shoot guy.
Malek Edmonds – 6’7 PF 2020 – Brownsburg (IN)
***16 points on 5/13 shooting, 5 rebounds against North Central (IN)***
Malek has continued to really develop as a mid-range scoring threat. He’s so good on the dribble inside the race where he can put it on the floor and pull-up. His footwork is improving as well. Showed a handful of times that he can catch in the mid-range and get all the way to the rim, even had a nice spin move on one of them. His strength is really putting him into position to rebound and be physical in the post. Starting to take his entire game up a level, just needs that next breakthrough game.
Anthony Scales – 6’4 SF 2020 – Zionsville (IN)
***15 points, 3 rebounds against Carmel (IN)***
Scales got off to a red hot start before settling down a bit. He was at least 4/4 to start the game including a great turnaround jumper and a pair of triples. He looked more comfortable along the wing and was very aggressive early in this one. He’s a big wing but the agility and ball handling have both improved since this time last year and that seems to have given him some more confidence to shoot the ball. He hit that mid-range turnaround jumper twice in this game, continuing his skill as a mid-range standout but the perimeter jumper is kind of a new thing for him. If he can extend that scoring beyond just a short stint, he should become that well-rounded scoring wing we have hoped for a while.
Ben Weidner – 6’1 PG 2020 – Zionsville (IN)
***12 points, 3 rebounds against Carmel (IN)***
Ben was kind of quiet through the most of the game but hit the big three at the buzzer to send it to overtime and then took over the extra period to secure the win. He hit a pair of catch-and-shoot threes, one being the Hail Mary shot. He also showed his toughness around the rim with a rebound putback and drew a foul. He did show quite a bit defensively as he was able to switch a bit and has the size and strength to get up into defenders. He can play on the ball and would give a college program a different look on both ends of the floor. Do want to see if he can have some bigger production games in terms of scoring down the road.
Jackson Hughes – 6’5 SF 2020 – Zionsville (IN)
***7 points against Carmel (IN)***
Jackson is a transfer from Rensselaer Central (IN) who is looking to be an impact player for Zionsville. He showed he could use his size to his advantage as he was consistently in the post and making plays against either smaller guards or bigger posts that struggled to keep up with him. He did hit a catch-and-shoot three and had a really great spin move in the lane that he finished with a floater.
Gunnar Vannatta – 6’10 C 2020 – Zionsville (IN)
***4 points against Carmel (IN)***
Gunnar is a big post player who is looking a little more mobile and tough around the rim. He showed some more explosiveness vertically than we have seen in the past. He had a few plays in this game around the rim. Had a really nice, tough rebound putback and the next play he had was a right-handed post finish on the low block. Needs to find some more touches down low as he is pretty efficient right now, just lacking the opportunities. Want to see if that increased mobility will help him on the boards down the road and increase the production.
Jackson Jannsen – 5’11 PG 2020 – Carmel (IN)
***11 points against Zionsville (IN)***
Jackson was as productive and confident as we have seen. He looked comfortable with his shooting ability and was willing to pull-up at any point. Did quite a bit off the catch but was pretty good when he needed to put the ball on the floor and get to the open spot. Did step into the mid-range and hit as well. He’s a smaller guard so he will have to play a little on the ball at the next level but this confidence and shooting was impressive.
Eric Goodes – 5’10 PG 2020 – Andrean (IN)
***14 points on 6/8 shooting, 2 rebounds***
Eric had one of the better games we have seen from him so far. Scoring 14 points in a variety of ways. He hit a 3-pointer off the catch, showcased a pretty solid floater, and was just really tough driving to the rim. He was utilizing his toughness quite a bit more and while he isn’t overly quick, he’s strong and LC’s guards had a hard time staying right on him. Creative enough and should be a guy that has more games like this throughout the year. Want to see how he does when Flesher returns to help on the ball.
Nick Anderson – 6’2 SG 2020 – Lake Central (IN)
***35 points on 9/21 from the field, 4/7 from 3, 3 rebounds***
Nick is a tall, lanky shooter who really showed off his deep range. He was best in this game with his quick release and ability to space himself out and get his shot off quickly. He’s going to rely a lot on the perimeter jumper which looks about as on as you are going to find. However, his dribble drive ability really shined through. If he can find a way to mix in just enough driving ability to keep defenders off a little, giving him that spacing, he should continue to have big productive games.
