Quise Davis – Denver East
Playing along side standout Langston Reynolds, Denver East has a young talented underclassman backcourt. Davis may not score as much as some of his teammates but he has a great impact on the game every night. He is averaging: 7.8 PPG, 6.8 APG, 3.5 RPG, 4.8 SPG for the Angles so far through four games. Davis is an explosive guard with great quickness that lives at the rim. His 6.8 assists per game leads the team, with plenty of playmakers around him and his great vision, he is one of the more exciting guards to watch currently. It will be fun to see how this team grows throughout the season with a lot of young talent.
Sam Howery – St. Mary’s
Howery is averaging: 19.3 PPG, 9.0 APG, 6.3 RPG, 3.8 SPG in his sophomore season for St. Mary’s, after a very successful freshmen year where he played in twenty-three games averaging 14.5 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 4.4 APG. Howery is currently second on the team in scoring, behind junior Luke Stockelman at 19.5 PPG. This is a very talented St. Mary’s team that has started the season 4-0, Howery has already put up two double-doubles on the season while being two rebounds short of a triple-double twice so far. He impacts the game in every way, from scoring to creating for his teammates as well as getting it done on the defensive side of the ball. Keep an eye out for him going forward as he’s off to a big sophomore season.
Josh Lopez – Mullen
Lopez is currently second on the team in scoring with 13.0 PPG, he is also averaging 5.7 APG, 4.0 RPG for Mullen so far in the early part of the season. He is shooting the ball well from behind the arc to start the season, connecting on half of his attempts so far shooting (8/16). He has been able to knock down the shot consistently in the early going for Mullen while Carter is the main focal point for defenses when preparing for the Mustangs. Both Lopez and senior guard Diallo Thompson are doing a nice job so far for Mullen leading the backcourt, they’re both averaging 5.7 assists per game. It will be fun to see how this Mullen team grows around their young players like Lopez and raising big man Brayden Carter who is currently averaging a double-double for Mullen at 23 points a game and 12.3 rebounds.
Brock Wisne – Horizon
Wisne is part of a young Horizon team that has started the season strong at 4-1, after losing to a tough Fairview team last night 67-76. He is currently averaging: 12.4 PPG, 1.8 APG, 11.8 RPG, 2.0 SPG. He has recorded a double-double in all five games of the season so far. At 6’8, he has great size and is a strong rebounder on both ends of the court. For a big man he has nice touch around the rim but also will stretch the floor and knock down a mid-range shot. He had his best game of the season in the losing effort to Fairview, who has a couple solid bigs. He went for 18 points and 13 rebounds and was relentless on the offensive boards with nine on the night, as well as three blocks.
Elijah Knudsen – Mead
Mead as an exciting team filled with veteran leaders as well as some top young talent which includes Knudsen who is currently averaging: 17.7 PPG, 1.7 APG, 3.0 RPG, 1.0 SPG. He is 13/27 on threes so far this season for, forty-eight percent but he impacts the game much more than his shooting ability. He is a smart guard who is always in the right spot, with great spacing on the court. This will be a player I keep my eyes on going forward these next two years as I believe he will start to get a lot more attention. He plays in control and is able to create his own shot off the dribble. As a team to start the season, Mead is averaging 92.7 points a game and has several players that can score in bulk. They currently have four players averaging double figures in scoring to begin the season. Knudsen is second on the team in scoring to begin the season for Mead.
