1. JD Davison, 6’3 PG, Calhoun: Arguably the best player in the state regardless of class. He is an explosive athlete on both ends of the floor. His ability to play passing lanes and challenge shots at the rim is special on the defensive end of the floor. He pace and basketball IQ is second to none which always has him playing under control. He is relentless at attacking the rim in traffic or the open court. Needs to continue to tighten up on his handle and become a more consistent outside shooter, however when watching him play those improvements will easily be met.
2. Kaleb Brown, 6’5 CG, Lee-Huntsville: We all love big guards because of their ability to create mismatches on both ends of the floor. With that being said, this is the definition of a big guard. Kaleb possesses the ability to simply overpower defenders from the perimeter and post up small defenders who dare try and guard him. He has deceptive speed and pace to compile his brute strength. He will have to continue to work on his body to make sure he is in supreme shape once he begins to decide on which major college program he will attend. He can shoot the ball with range but thrives going downhill and applying pressure on defenses.
3. GaQuincy McKinstry, 6’1 CG, Pinson-Valley: His bread maybe buttered on the football field but if he so chose to he would be a highly prospect on the hardwood. With several offers already from major programs to play both football and basketball its still a chance we will see him on the court beyond high school. As for his game, he approaches the gym the same as he approaches the football field with ferocious intensity. His ability to get to the basket and finish over defenders with contact is an incredible sight to see. He is a streaky shooter but has the ability to fill it up once he gets going. He is a terror on the defensive end due to his supreme athleticism and physicality. He has good vision in the open court and is a willing passer but his IQ and ability to process information is what really makes him special.
4. Keshawn Murphy, 6’8 WF, Ramsay: As he continues to transition himself into a complete wing player he has not forgotten what he is great at which is rebounding the basketball. His ability to clean up the glass is a special art. With his skill set, he is able to take it off the glass and lead the break and make the right decisions. He has deep range on his jump-shot and finishes well above the rim in transition and in traffic. For a big guy, he does a decent job of creating off the dribble but still needs to improve on handling the ball against pressure.
5. Brody Peebles, 6’2 CG, Hartselle: An official member of the “CBG” Certified Bucket Getter. This guy can fill it up with the best of them. His ability to score from anywhere on the court makes him a problem for any style defense. His approved ability to put the ball on the floor and beat defenders off the dribble has added another dimension to his already loaded game. He has been lighting it up in the early portion of this season averaging upwards of 30+ points per game. He is showing to be a leader on the floor and one who has an ultra-competitive streak. He is an elite shooter with range who doesn’t mind getting in the lane and competing for rebounds. He still needs to improve his lateral quickness that will allow him to become a better on-ball defender. look for his numbers to continue to increase as the season goes along.
