Ryan Beasley 5’9 2023 point guard. Dougherty Valley HS, San Ramon CA.
It’s going to be fun watching this prospect grow and expand his game over the next 4 years in NorCal. The young Beasley has a high IQ, and a clear understanding of what a point guard should do. Reminder he is a Freshman, starting on the varsity and running the point. It was my first good look at him. He has good flow, plays under control, he can play fast or slow with the ball. On the drive he attacks keeping bigs off balance, he’s not afraid of contact on the drive. He displays a quality mid-range shot and he can shoot the 3. He had 6 in the title game. I’m not sure about his defense yet, but he does have quick hands, he had a good number of steals. At 5’9 he’s got some growing to do, nevertheless he can play and is a solid prospect. Keep an eye on this one.
Bryce Shackelford 6’4 2022 wing Folsom HS, Folsom CA.
This was my first look at this prospect. In 2 games the wing type prospect played a good all around game, he had good movement without the ball cutting, and slashing to the basket. His teammates found him underneath on several plays. He’s a good finisher around the basket with either hand and displayed a nice left handed jump hook. At the top of the key he drove through the lane, and on the baseline he nailed a couple of nice mid-range shots. He’s long and wiry, he’ll help with rebounding and he can guard out on the wings. 18 points in his last game, and All-Tourney.
Malik Rose 5’8 2022 point guard, Folsom HS, Folsom CA.
The speedy point guard is fearless, and a constant threat to attack the rim anywhere on the court from any angle. He finishes with floaters, or uses a very effective pump fake that throws off the big guys in the paint. He nailed a couple of corner 3’s. He has a burst of speed in the open court to blow by defenders. He can defend other speedy point guards.
Brady Cook 5’10 2022 guard, Northgate HS, Walnut Creek CA.
A good prospect that the coach wants on the floor. What he does may not show up in the box score, but he was a consistent performer for the 2 days I was there. A combo guard, he did a nice job of running the half-court sets, and this team has plenty. He moves the ball on offense with the pass, and he doesn’t stand around without the ball, he sets screens, or he’s looking to close out. He showed a good shooting form on 3 point attempts, he made a couple, and a solid mid-range.
Luke Westermeyer 5’11 2021 point guard, Clayton Valley Charter HS, Concord CA.
One of the more polished point guards in NorCal class of 2021. Luke has a good feel for the game, his handles are good, and he has good court vision. He’s a pass first point guard, but is more than capable of finding his shot. He has good command of the offense in halfcourt sets, and is always looking to advance the ball in transition with the forward pass. He’s good at keeping the big guys off balance on the drive, using off hand and floaters to finish. His midrange is good, and he nailed four 3’s in game one of this event for 30 points.
Jacoby Lacey 6’3 2021 guard, Dougherty Valley HS, San Ramon CA.
He brings more speed and athleticism when he enters the game. He’s one of the taller players on this team 6’3, and is counted on to guard bigger players and work around the basket (no post ups). He scored on strong baseline attacks, and getting up the court in transition. This team likes to get up and down the court they scored 100 points in the title game, this fits him well. He’s wiry and stronger than he looks. He added a double double in the title game 14 points, 10 rebounds. A key player off the bench for this team.
