The game was close throughout, with the Fighting Frogs finally pulling away from the Lions in the fourth quarter. Here’s a few takeaways from the game.
1. Fairfax guard play
There’s no question that Fairfax’s strength lies in their guards. Keith Dinwidde, Justyn Hunter, Justin Gladney, and Barry Wilds Jr are all impact players. Dinwidde is a lethal scorer from the perimeter and can also finish strong at the rim. Hunter is a solid playmaker who constantly makes the right decision. Gladney has a good slashing game and can shoot well from three. Wilds is strong defensively and a killer in the midrange.
2. Ribet’s perimeter scoring
The Fighting Frogs are solid when it comes to scoring from the wings. They’re led in the category by junior wing Tyler Powell. Powell initially began his high school career as a big, but he’s since made the transition to a scoring wing who can light it up from anywhere on the court. Barrington Hargress is another solid scorer on the wing who can shoot from the perimeter, or put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. Snookey Wigington also provides a lift with his shooting as does Jalen Shores.
3. Fairfax interior play
While Fairfax will hurt you from the perimeter, they can play in the paint as well. Senior Armon Cole is a mobile big who can do damage in the post. He’s a big body who finishes strong around the rim. He moves well without the ball and has good hands. Crashes the glass strong and has a nice little midrange shot. Senior Jesse Park is another mobile big who is seemingly always in the right place at the right time. He’s active around the rim and can finish well too.
4. Ribet playmaking
The Fighting Frogs are certainly a team that can put up a lot of points in a hurry, but they are strong playmakers who make that scoring a little easier with good passing. Tookey Wigington can get his own shot, but he excels in finding his teammates both in the halfcourt and in transition. Barrington Hargress is a natural scorer, but he too can act as a facilitator at times. Jalen Shores is another point guard who can sub in for Wigington a bit and keep the offense moving.
