Here is a look at part one of the Saturday standouts list.
RJ Davis (Archbishop Stepinac)
The toughest and craftiest guard I’ve seen here all week is hands down 2020 6’1″ North Carolina commit RJ Davis. He netted 26 points including 16 in the second half alone. Taylor went to the bucket time and time again and was finishing hard. He puts his body on the line, loves the contact and thrives as a high IQ passer and lay-in artist. 2020 6’3″ guard Luke Fizulich was an impressive supplementary player with his 15 point outing where he shot 6-of-7 from the field.
Paolo Banchero (O’Dea)
Another day at the office for 2021 6’10” O’Dea big man Paolo Banchero. He continues to be a high end performer, shooting 10-of-14 from the field and finishing with 24 points. He is a man amongst boys. Banchero will be really good at the next level and beyond. His upside is endless and he can simply make it look easy with his superb ballhandling, agile feet and long and strong frame.
Corey Perkins & Nnanna Njoku (Sanford)
Sanford pair Corey Perkins and Nnanna Njoku were highly efficient for Sanford in a scrappy win over Fort Myers. The 2020 6’2″ Perkins led his squad with 17 points as he hit 5-of-6 shots from the field and 5-of-7 free throws. He was connecting on good looks and playing with a scoring mindset in a low scoring affair. As for Njoku, the 2021 6’9″ forward was a beast down low scoring 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. He was simply a banger inside as he actually connected on a 3-point attempt as well. Njoku returned to action after sitting out the previous day. With offers from Villanova, Xavier and Wake Forest among his list, the guy is just a tough nosed big man who thrives in his role.
Kobe Clark & Cam’Ron Fletcher (Vashon)
The Vashon big men dug deep in the 8:30 AM matchup with Roman Catholic. 2020 6’7″ forward Kobe Clark has been reliable all week long for his side being vocal, dishing out nice lead passes and keep ing everything together for his group. He scrapped his way to an 11 point, seven rebound and seven steal performance. He is going to make some Division I program super happy. Clark is highly underrated. As for Cam’ron Fletcher, the 6’8″ Kentucky commit put together second straight nice outing with 16 points and 10 rebounds making his money out in transition as a physical specimen and athlete.
Lynn Greer & Xzayvier Brown (Roman Catholic)
Even though the free throws weren’t falling late for 2020 6’3″ guard Lynn Greer, he was really good in the third quarter adding eight points. He finished with a team-best 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting and was the alpha for his side in the loss. As for 2023 6′ guard Xzayvier Brown, he was very active and confident as a shooter (6-of-8 from the field) to finish with 15 points. I like his shooting prowess and he’s a prospect to keep a close eye on in Pennsylvania.
Sangolay Njie & DJ Steward (Whitney Young)
The effort from 2020 Whitney Young pair Sangolay Njie and DJ Steward was very strong especially with the game on the line against Scotlandville. In the loss, Whitney Young woke up a little too late, but the 6’8″ Njie was a steady presence in all four quarters, getting out on the break and finish quickly. He had 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting along with seven rebounds. As for 6’4″ Duke commit Steward, he had 16 points, (6-of-6 free throws). He came on late and was hustling on the attack. Both guys played all 32 minutes.
Jonathan Horton & David Thomas (Scotlandville)
Scotlandville had four players in double digits led by two 13 point performances from 2020 6’7″ forward Jonathan Horton and 2020 5’11” guard David Thomas. Horton was 6-of-7 from the field and he had a few huge dunks in transition. He is a vocal and energy piece for his group. Thomas likes to shoot it and he was doing well today, hitting 4-of-7 from the field in his limited opportunities.
