There are usually great matchups and close games; over the weekend the 5A division had some close games that were within 2-4 points. Here are some players that came up clutch in Saturday’s game.
Timberline vs Mountain View 42-40
Mountain View immediately came out with a full-court press and tough man to man defense, putting Timberline on their heels. The game stayed close until the 3rd quarter when Mountain View outscored Timberline 13-6. Timberline didn’t give up, however, and with the help of #4 6’3 senior guard, Jake Stranzl, and his clutch 3 point shooting, they were able to tie the game with 1:30 left. Timberline ended up with the last shot when #5 6’0 senior guard, Garret Long, dribbled down the lane and banked in a shot from the block with a foul. Long pitched in 10 points on 4-7 shooting, which included a nice bucket underneath as well as a 3 pointer. Although Long made the game-winning shot, Stranzl helped keep his team alive with his 20 points on 7-14 shooting. Of the 4-7 three-pointers that Stranzl made, one was a buzzer-beater 3, and two were made in a row, making it a tie game in the 4th. Along with a great shooting display, he had several steals and drives to the hoop where he finished or drew a foul. Not only does he go up strong, but he is crafty on the way up, finding ways to get a clean shot off.
