Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several underrated Kansas players who stood out during the action.
Kamari Armstrong, 6’2, G, 2020, Olathe East
A tough as nails defensive player, Armstrong is everywhere at the defensive end of the court, pressuring the ball, getting in the passing lanes and diving on the floor for loose balls. He is strong off the dribble, gets to the basket and can make plays for his team at the offensive end of the court. At 6’2, Armstrong has good size for a guard and uses it well, able to rebound, get in the passing lanes and score with ease around the basket.
Michael Cahill, 5’11, PG, 2021, St. James
Cahill is a talented point guard who is crafty with his dribble, sets up others exceptionally well and brings a high basketball IQ to the court. He has terrific court vision, able to find open teammates around him for easy baskets. Cahill has a smooth outside shot and is a terrific finisher in the lane.
Tommy Dreyer, 6’1, G, 2021, Shawnee Mission East
A hard working guard, Dryer make shots, plays defense and is a strong, physical player. He has the ability to handle the ball a little and is a consistent outside shooter, able to knock down 3-pointers and has range out to the college line. He had a strong tournament and showed he is a key piece to the puzzle this season for the Lancers.
10 — Liam Weaver, 6’3, G/F, 2021, Pembroke Hill
Weaver is coming off a strong sophomore season and is a terrific all-around offensive player. He had some bright moments throughout the tournament at SME offensively, showing the ability to create his own shot off the bounce, take the ball strong to the basket or shoot the 3.
4 — Jordan McGowan, 5’10, G, 2023, Shawnee Mission West
McGowan showed he is one of the better incoming freshman this season as he is a talented ball handler and shot creator for SM West. McGowan can shoot from the outside, gets to the basket and has the ability to finish over bigger defenders.
