Matt Johnson – Lake Mills – 2020:
Johnson took the reins of a team usually upheld by a deep starting rotation. In the first half, the forward found success with a fast-release from outside. In the second, though, he diversified his shot chart with inside scoring.
As Lake Mills continues trending upwards in the division three rankings, anticipate Johnson’s stat line to follow the same path.
Zach Mashlan – Freedom – 2020:
Mashlan parted the Beliot Turner defense at the seams with his driving game, his shiftiness allowing him to score in isolation and create opportunities for teammates.
He scored 10 points in the first half, adding nine to his total in the second. Ultimately, it was his contributions as a passer and, if needed, as an aggressive scorer down the stretch that gave Freedom a much-needed boost.
Mason Dorn – Seymour – 2020:
Dorn entered today averaging 28.7 points a game. After making three of seven shots in the first three minutes and showing a newfound aggressiveness with the rock, the absurd point totals started making sense.
The guard attacked the paint more frequently than in past games, showing off a pure runner and unpredictable mid-range game. Dorn finished just below his average, scoring 20 points.
Riley Murphy – Seymour – 2020:
Murphy displayed feathery shooting touch in the second half of today’s game, sinking multiple shots from almost five feet beyond the arc.
As stats begin rolling in throughout the season, don’t be surprised if Murphy’s field goal percentage is atop the division — and possibly the state.
Brock Volkman – Seymour – 2020:
Volkman made a sneaky impact on today’s game, chipping in 16 points on a handful of three-point shots. Seymour is a roster that prides itself on scoring, and his input could prove invaluable during a playoff run.
Sam Haese – Wrightstown – 2021:
Haese jumps out as a solid prospect because of his balance in size and mobility. Against Mineral Point, he drew contact by utilizing a silky under-hand scoop shot while converting at the free-throw line down the stretch.
Haese finished the game with 26 points, and on defense, he added a few game-sealing rebounds.
Joah Filardo – Mineral Point – 2022:
Mineral Point got a taste of the future tonight with an impressive outing from sophomore Joah Filardo. He dropped 35 points on the night, finding easy buckets by way of cuts, open looks from three, and simple but persistent driving attempts.
It’s safe to say this was a lasting first impression.
Ty Melchert – Green Bay Southwest – 2020:
The guard possesses an isolation skillset that worked in his favor all night. Melchert knocked down a few contested, fade-away jumpers while using crafty dribbles to pierce the paint.
He’s no doubt an elite talent in the region and is making a remarkable jump from last year’s role as a complementary piece.
Jacob Newhouse – Kaukauna – 2020:
Newhouse took over tonight’s game, bullying all of his opponents within five feet of the rim.
Defensively, Newhouse continues to cement himself as an elite rim protector. His size and timing to deflect shots is textbook, and in a game where Kaukauna struggled on that end, he was that much more impactful with his craft.
